Job Title: Engineering Detailer / DrafterJob Description

This Engineering Detailer/Drafter role focuses on designing and detailing components that power mission-critical facilities such as data centers and hospitals. You will create precise 2D and 3D drawings for rugged rental products and stationary generator-set packages, ensuring they are build-ready for a dynamic manufacturing and dealer environment. Using AutoCAD and Inventor, you will translate engineering and customer inputs into accurate fabrication drawings and bills of materials, supporting projects that keep essential facilities online and operational.

Responsibilities

  • Create clear and accurate 2D and 3D drawings for skids, bases, enclosures, fuel systems, cooling systems, exhaust systems, and wiring layouts using established company CAD standards.
  • Translate engineer and customer inputs into complete, build-ready fabrication drawings and detailed bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Collaborate closely with Project Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, and the fabrication shop to resolve design questions and ensure drawings are production-ready.
  • Maintain current and accurate drawing sets by applying redlines, revisions, and as-built updates in a timely manner.
  • Organize, maintain, and control drawing files and versions to ensure proper documentation and traceability.
  • Use Microsoft Office tools to support documentation, reporting, and communication related to design and drafting activities.
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining high standards of quality and detail.
  • Communicate clearly with internal stakeholders to clarify requirements, address issues, and support smooth project execution.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment when working on manufacturing floors or job sites.
  • Remain flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed to support project timelines and customer commitments.
  • Participate in occasional travel as required to support project or site needs.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience using Inventor and AutoCAD in a manufacturing environment.
  • Expert-level 2D drafting skills in AutoCAD.
  • 3D modeling experience within the last year, preferably using Inventor or a comparable 3D CAD platform.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation and communication.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate and complete drawings and documentation.
  • High level of organization and flexibility to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficient communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to follow established CAD standards and maintain consistent drawing quality.
  • Capability to perform physical tasks such as sitting for extended periods, typing, writing, and lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to manage stress and maintain focus while working under deadlines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Caterpillar toolsets such as CAT ET, CAT Monitoring Software, SIS, and EDDC is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of diesel and natural-gas generator sets is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of engines or diesel engine systems would be highly beneficial.
  • Experience with mechanical design, drafting, and CAD-based layout work.
  • Familiarity with electrical layouts and engine-related systems is an advantage.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving project requirements and support growth driven by expanding data center markets.
  • Willingness to learn and leverage new tools, technologies, and processes.
  • Interest in ongoing professional development, including education assistance opportunities.

Physical requirements include speaking, listening, writing, typing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds, sitting for extended periods, and managing stress in a deadline-driven environment. Job hazards may include tripping, slipping, falling, jobsite hazards, hand injuries, driving-related hazards, equipment movement, and overexertion due to stress and fatigue. You must follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment based on the environment or location. Occasional travel may be required.
