For over 100 years, Maguire has been an industry leader in the fabrication, construction, and maintenance of water storage tanks and elevated water towers. The Draftsman at Maguire will work closely with other employees to provide accurate and timely technical drawings and plans for our Fabrication, Erection, and Iron divisions.

Essential Functions:

  • Review engineers’ specifications/drawings
  • Perform plate layouts
  • Review release for construction drawings and cross reference to Engineer drawings and spec book
  • Schedule/Ship anchor bolts to foundation sub
  • Perform shop drawings for fabrication of tank
  • Perform detailed shipping list for each project
  • Perform plasma cut list for fabrication
  • Perform all cutting programs for fabrication
  • Follow-up on approved shop drawings and make corrections for the fabrication plant/resubmit if necessary
  • Perform radiography drawings for each individual tank
  • Perform weld quality drawings/tracking sheets
  • Check shop quality control and fabrication is constructed per shop drawings
  • Perform checklist for trucking loads

  • Two-year drafting degree preferred or equivalent work experience
  • Organizational, time management and computer skills are required
  • Ability to effectively communicate
  • Team oriented person who can focus on the details
  • Professional attitude when dealing with engineers, project managers and shop personnel

Work Environment:

  • Majority of the time is spent in an office environment outside of the fabrication shop.
  • Frequently required to sit, squat, talk and hear. 
  • Constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. 
  • Adhere to Maguire’s PPE Policy and Safety Programs.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities. Requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to work at a sustained pace and produce quality work.

In the early 1900’s Michael J. Maguire emigrated from Ireland to the Newton/Waltham area where he worked in the plumbing industry. He served in the United States Army during WW1 and following discharge, he continued working in the plumbing industry.

Circa 1922 he began providing plumbing and steam heating services as Michael J. Maguire Plumbing and Heating with three employees working on residential projects. Michael Maguire’s three sons William, Robert and Michael became master plumbers. His second son, Robert, grew the business to include commercial service and construction projects and incorporated the firm in 1969 as Maguire Company, Inc.

Robert’s second son, Dennis V. Maguire, became a master plumber and has continued the family tradition. Today the Maguire Company, Inc. is a vibrant third-generation family owned and operated corporation providing a wide range of plumbing, heating, mechanical contracting services to residential, commercial and institutional clients.
