The Drafting and Service Center Specialist role within the Global Parts & Service's Competitor Pulverizer Team supports the quotation and order fulfillment process for non-OEM mill parts by providing technical drafting, reverse engineering, and technical proficiency. The position combines engineering graphics, technical analysis, and customer service functions to create accurate drawings, 3D models, and bills of material that enable the company to manufacture and supply replacement parts.

This role serves as a key link between engineering, project management, business development, and external suppliers, ensuring that all technical requirements, standards, and specifications are met while facilitating efficient project execution.

By maintaining accurate part data, verifying designs, and supporting supplier bidding and procurement activities, the Service Specialist helps drive operational efficiency and responsiveness in the aftermarket parts business.

The position enables the organization to competitively quote, produce, and deliver high-quality replacement parts, strengthening customer support and revenue generation within the Global Parts & Service business unit.

DUTIES

  • Support customer quote development and orders for competitor mill parts by creating and modifying technical drawings, 3D models, and bills of material to support accurate pricing and production.
  • Reverse engineer existing components and integrate the data into B&W CAD systems (SolidWorks) to create detail drawings for fabrication.
  • Operate 3D Scanner and CMM to obtain and analyze geometric data.
  • Develop and maintain detailed assembly, arrangement, and component drawings, ensuring all designs meet specified requirements, tolerances, and company/industry standards.
  • Perform quality checks on drawings by verifying dimensions, fits, tolerances, and manufacturability to ensure accuracy before release for quoting, procurement, or production.
  • Create and manage part numbers, product structures, and bills of material within internal systems ensuring accurate documentation and traceability of components.
  • Prepare and issue bid packages to suppliers, respond to technical inquiries, and coordinate with vendors to support sourcing and manufacturing activities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Project Management, Business Development, and external suppliers to ensure timely execution of orders and alignment of technical requirements.
  • Maintain and track intellectual property and project progress databases for competitor mill parts, ensuring accurate status reporting and documentation.
  • Conduct hands-on inspection and measurement of physical parts using traditional tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) within a shop or warehouse environment to validate dimensions and support reverse engineering efforts.
  • Perform material handling and warehouse-related duties, including lifting, moving, and positioning heavy components, supporting warehouse receiving, inspection, and staging for measurement or final shipment.
  • Operate or assist with warehouse/shop equipment such as forklifts (where applicable), cranes, etc. to safely transport parts and materials within the service center.
  • Support inventory organization and part identification within the service center, ensuring components are properly labeled, tracked, and accessible for engineering and production activities.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing drafting, technical analysis, supplier coordination, and hands-on shop support to meet deadlines and customer needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's degree in drafting, engineering technology, manufacturing technology, or a related technical field.
  • 4-6 years equivalent hands-on experience in graphics, drafting, or design work (in lieu of a formal degree).
  • Specialized training or coursework in CAD software, SolidWorks is preferred.
  • 4-6 years technical training or experience with 3D Scanning equipment and precision measurement tools.
  • Experience in manufacturing processes such as casting, machining, fabrication, and quality assurance practices.
  • Ability to create, modify, and validate detailed drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks or similar parametric 3D modeling software.
  • Capability to analyze physical components, interpret data, and reproduce accurate designs from existing parts.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, tolerances, and manufacturability aligned with industry standards.
  • Proficiency in managing bills of material, part numbers, and technical documentation within internal systems while supporting quoting and order processes.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with project teams, business development, and external suppliers to execute work efficiently.
  • Hands-on capability to safely handle, inspect, and manage heavy parts within a warehouse or service center environment.
