The Odessa College Drama faculty member provides instruction and academic supervision for Theatre and Drama courses, fostering student learning through engaging, student-centered classroom instruction and hands-on, performance-based experiences. The role supports the development of students' artistic expression, creativity, and critical thinking while maintaining high academic standards. Curriculum delivery emphasizes both theoretical foundations and practical application, preparing students for continued study, performance opportunities, and professional pathways in theatre and the performing arts.
Specific Position Duties
- Maintains current knowledge and professional competency in the discipline.
- Demonstrates willingness and ability to teach a variety of courses across multiple modalities, schedules, locations, and delivery methods as needed and reasonably assigned by the College.
- Utilizes appropriately challenging coursework to support student achievement and help students reach their full academic and artistic potential.
- Provides clear course expectations, including syllabi, policies, assignment guidelines, and timely graded feedback.
- Develops and administers assessments appropriate to course content, including comprehensive final evaluations that measure students' mastery of course objectives.
- Fosters a learning environment that affirms the worth and dignity of all individuals and supports the right of all students to learn.
- Maintains a respectful, inclusive, and academically rigorous classroom climate-whether face-to-face, web-enhanced, or fully online-that encourages open exchange of ideas while upholding academic integrity and objectivity.
- Prepares thoroughly for all instructional activities, arrives punctually to all classes, labs, rehearsals, and scheduled commitments, and delivers course content in a clear, organized, and engaging manner.
- Responds to student inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner through classroom interaction, office hours, and appropriate electronic communication.
- Teaches assigned courses within the Theatre curriculum, including web, web-enhanced, and dual credit (CollegeNow) offerings at off-site locations throughout the West Texas region, as needed.
- Actively supports student recruitment, advising, and retention efforts for the Theatre program and the College, including outreach to prospective students, recruitment events, and collaboration with advising and enrollment initiatives.
- Participates in departmental and campus-wide committees and service activities.
- Directs and/or produces a minimum of two full theatrical productions per academic year.
- Collaborates with the Music Program on the annual opera production.
- Provides workshops, clinics, and outreach support for theatre programs and students in area high schools to strengthen recruitment pipelines and promote engagement in the performing arts.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree with 18 or more graduate hours in Theatre or Drama from a regionally-accredited institution.
- Experience teaching/directing/producing plays and other dramatic performances.
- Computer literacy.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent work ethic.
- Commitment to teaching excellence.
