Position Summary
What will your role be?
The Middle School Drama Teacher is responsible for delivering a comprehensive, standards- aligned drama curriculum that fosters creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration in students in grades 6-8. The ideal candidate is passionate about the performing arts, skilled in classroom management, and committed to creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment where every student can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging drama lessons aligned with state and district
curriculum standards.
- Teach foundational theatre arts skills, including acting techniques, voice and movement,
improvisation, script analysis, and stagecraft.
- Design and implement developmentally appropriate instruction that meets the diverse
needs of middle school learners.
- Assess and evaluate student progress through formative and summative assessments;
provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grade records, and other required documentation in
accordance with school policy.
- Create and maintain a positive, respectful classroom environment that encourages risk-
taking and self-expression.
- Collaborate with fellow teachers, administrators, and support staff to support student
success across disciplines.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with parents and guardians regarding student
progress and classroom expectations.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide events as
required.
- Adhere to all school, district, and state policies, including those related to student safety
and conduct.
Key Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Theatre Arts, Drama Education, Performing Arts, or a
- related field required.
- Valid state teaching license/certification in Drama, Theatre Arts, or Fine Arts (Middle
- School level) required.
- Master's degree in education or a related field preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 1-2 years of classroom teaching experience preferred; student teaching or practicum experience considered.
- Experience working with middle school-age students strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of theatre arts principles, history, and performance techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction to meet varied learning needs and styles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with students, staff, and families.
- Strong classroom management skills with the ability to maintain an engaging, structured environment.
- Ability to integrate technology into instruction and use school learning management systems.
- Collaborative, flexible, and solution-oriented team player.
