Company Overview Sierra Space, a mission‑driven organization, delivers satellite and spacecraft technologies that safeguard national security and enable space exploration.Role Overview The ECLS Flight Controller is a real‑time systems engineer responsible for Dream Chaser spacecraft thermal management and environmental control systems during mission operations.Responsibilities Monitor spacecraft telemetry, command thermal control and environmental systems in real time.Execute nominal and contingency procedures using the Epsilon3 and InControl platforms.Analyze telemetry trends, identify anomalies, and provide real‑time technical decisions.Coordinate with Engineering Support Room personnel and other console positions (EPS, Avionics, Mech, Prop) for integrated system issues.Provide go/no‑go recommendations to the Flight Director.Develop ECLS procedures, flight rules, display pages, and investigate thermal control system anomalies.Participate in simulations, pre‑mission planning, and continuous proficiency training.Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in thermal systems, spacecraft operations, aerospace test operations, or related technical field.Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermal control system principles.Knowledge of requirements management, system integration, verification/validation, and systems development lifecycle.Ability to analyze complex technical data and make sound decisions under time pressure.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration in multidisciplinary environments.Commitment to operational excellence, rigor, and attention to detail.Availability for rotating 9‑hour shifts (24/7) and on‑site presence at Louisville, CO during missions.Valid FAA medical screening and ability to maintain this credential.Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.Direct experience with spacecraft thermal control systems, active cooling, heat rejection, thermal loops, and environmental conditioning.Previous real‑time operations experience as a flight controller, mission controller, or test conductor.Background in Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) for crewed or cargo spacecraft.Experience with command and control systems (InControl or similar) and procedure execution platforms (Epsilon3 or similar).Strong troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and decision‑making in operational environments.Experience developing operational procedures, console handbooks, flight rules, or training materials.Knowledge of spacecraft subsystems (EPS, avionics, propulsion, mechanical) and their thermal interfaces.Understanding of flight rules, operational limits, go/no‑go decision processes, and mission operations protocols.Risk management and technical performance tracking expertise.Compensation Base salary range: $119,064 – $163,713. Pay is based on knowledge, skills, experience, and market competitiveness.Security Clearance Position requires an active U.S. Security Clearance.
