The Driver Recruiting Manager is a high-impact, national role responsible for building and maintaining Allegro's independent contractor (IC) workforce. This person owns the full IC talent lifecycle — from sourcing and screening through onboarding, compliance verification, and ongoing performance oversight. They are the primary connection between Allegro's operational capacity and the contractor community that powers it.

This is not a traditional recruiting role. It requires deep familiarity with the final mile and complex installation space, a working knowledge of IC compliance requirements, and the relentless drive to build a pipeline of qualified, professional contractors across dozens of markets — before we need them, not after.

Key Responsibilities:

 Contractor Recruiting & Pipeline Development

  • Build and maintain a continuous national pipeline of qualified IC teams capable of performing appliance delivery and installation, furniture assembly, fitness equipment setup, and general final mile delivery.
  • Source contractors through job boards (Indeed, ZipRecruiter, CDLJobs, social platforms), industry networks, referral programs, carrier conferences, and direct outreach.
  • Screen candidates for business entity status, equipment ownership, insurance coverage, driving record, installation capabilities, and market fit.
  • Conduct structured screening interviews to evaluate professionalism, service standards, and alignment with Allegro's operational requirements.
  • Prioritize proactive pipeline building — always recruiting, not just backfilling, so no market is ever caught without coverage.
  • Develop and manage a preferred contractor list by region, with tiered qualification based on service type and capability level.

Onboarding & Contractor Setup

  • Own the full end-to-end onboarding process for all new IC partners — every contractor enters the network fully documented and compliant before their first route.
  • Collect, verify, and maintain all required onboarding documentation including: Business entity verification (LLC, S-Corp, sole proprietor); Certificate of Insurance (COI) covering auto, general liability, cargo, and workers' comp where required; W-9/1099 documentation; MVR and background check clearance; Signed ICA and Statement of Work (SOW); Equipment inspection; Installation certification where applicable.
  • Partner with the Center of Excellence and Area Managers to complete service-specific training and orientation for new contractors in each market.
  • Track onboarding completion rate and time-to-active metrics; drive continuous improvement in speed from application to first route.

IC Compliance Management

  • Maintain ongoing compliance for all active IC partners — ensuring insurance certificates, contracts, background checks, and licenses remain current and are renewed before expiration.
  • Monitor regulatory changes at the federal and state level related to IC classification (DOL rules, AB5-type legislation, FMCSA requirements) and alert leadership to risk areas.
  • Partner with legal and operations leadership to ensure Allegro's IC engagement model withstands classification scrutiny.
  • Conduct periodic contractor file audits and flag compliance gaps for immediate resolution.
  • Maintain IC records in the contractor management system with full documentation audit trails.

Market Coverage & Capacity Planning

  • Collaborate with Area Managers and the Director of Final Mile to understand capacity needs by market and service type — and recruit ahead of those needs.
  • Maintain a live dashboard of contractor coverage by location, capacity, and capability.
  • Identify markets with coverage risk and develop targeted recruiting campaigns to fill gaps.
  • Build bench strength — every key market should have qualified backup contractors ready to activate on short notice.
  • Track contractor attrition, market performance, and churn reasons to identify patterns and address root causes proactively.

Contractor Relations

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for IC partners during the onboarding and early activation period.
  • Build professional relationships that position Allegro as the carrier partner of choice in a competitive IC market.
  • Communicate pay structures, route expectations, client service standards, and performance metrics clearly and upfront.
  • Escalate and help mediate contractor concerns in partnership with Area Managers when issues arise.
  • Represent Allegro at industry events, carrier conferences (ECA and similar), and recruiting fairs to build brand presence in the IC community.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of recruiting or contractor management experience in final mile, home delivery, white-glove logistics, or 3PL operations.
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting and onboarding 1099/IC teams — not just W-2 drivers.
  • Working knowledge of IC compliance requirements including insurance verification, worker classification standards, and documentation management.
  • Familiarity with the appliance delivery, furniture delivery, or installation services segment strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing contractor relationships across multiple geographic markets simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with applicant tracking systems (ATS), contractor management platforms, and/or transportation management systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Plus One, First Advantage, Checkr, or similar background screening platforms.
  • Background in IC compliance or contractor classification risk management.
  • Knowledge of FMCSA regulations and DOT compliance requirements for commercial delivery operations.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus given contractor workforce demographics in many markets.
