Job Duties
The teacher provides instruction, structure, and academic support to students within a secure juvenile justice educational setting. This role requires strong classroom management, adaptability, and the ability to engage students with varying academic, behavioral, and emotional needs.
Teachers are expected to create a safe, structured, and student-centered classroom environment while supporting the rehabilitative mission of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Bachelors degree from an accredited institution and graduated from an approved teacher preparation program in health and physical education; or earned a bachelors degree from an accredited institution and completed a major in health and physical education or 45 semester hours of coursework distributed in the following areas:
Licensed: Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching Certificate/License and endorsed in PE / Health and Drivers Education.
Experience: Experience as a Health/PE Drivers Education teacher in a secondary setting preferred.
