Driver

Role Summary

Are you a reliable, safety-minded professional who wants to make a meaningful difference in the daily lives of local seniors? We are seeking a dedicated Driver (Nutrition & Meals Delivery) for a full-time contract position.

In this vital community-facing role, you will be responsible for loading, transporting, and delivering home-delivered meals directly to individual elderly clients, as well as bulk meals to community day sites. You will serve as an essential link for our seniors, balancing safe driving and precise food temperature control with a compassionate approach to customer service. Additionally, you will act as a key set of "eyes and ears" in the field, observing and reporting any changes in a senior's well-being to our clinical social services team. If you enjoy driving, working as part of a collaborative food service team, and supporting vulnerable adults, we invite you to apply.

Duties & Responsibilities

Food Transportation & Route Delivery

  • Meal Delivery: Drive established routes to deliver individual meals to home-bound clients and transport bulk meals efficiently to designated community care sites.

  • Temperature & Quality Control: Adhere strictly to food delivery procedures to maintain acceptable, food-safe hot or cold temperatures during transit.

  • Loading & Inventory Verification: Verify daily delivery slips to ensure all food and non-food items are correctly loaded into the vehicle in the specified quantities before departing the central kitchen.

  • Kitchen Support: Assist the culinary team with the packaging and preparation of food items when high volumes require extra support.

  • Safe Driving Practices: Adhere strictly to safe driving regulations and defensive driving practices under varying weather, traffic, and road conditions.

  • Vehicle Upkeep: Maintain the interior and exterior cleanliness of the program vehicle. Complete daily pre- and post-trip vehicle checklists, reporting any mechanical issues or accidental damage immediately to leadership.

  • Logistical Correspondence: Deliver clinical reports, donation box collections, and administrative correspondence back and forth between the meal sites and the central kitchen daily.

  • Wellness Monitoring: Observe clients during deliveries for any noticeable changes in their physical health, cognitive status, or home living environment, immediately escalating concerns to the Social Services Coordinator.

  • Sanitation & Compliance: Participate in the kitchen team's daily cleaning schedule, maintaining absolute compliance with Department of Public Health standards and HIPAA privacy regulations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Experience & Skills

  • Core Abilities: Strong ability to follow precise verbal and written instructions, read maps, and navigate via GPS tracking systems.

  • Physical Stamina: Excellent manual dexterity, coordination, and physical stamina. Must be capable of frequently lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques.

  • Compliance Mindset: Ability to routinely work around moving mechanical parts, in outdoor elements (heat, humidity, inclement weather), and in moderately loud settings.

Desired Qualifications

  • Licensure: A valid California State Driver's License with a clean, insurable driving record is highly preferred.

  • Professional Background: Minimum of one (1) year of professional driving or commercial food service experience.

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent baseline.

  • Language Skills: Bilingual verbal skills in English/Spanish or English/Cantonese are a significant asset.

  • Eldercare Experience: Prior experience interacting with or caring for a senior population.

Location and Work Type

  • Work Setting: Field-based transportation role operating out of a central kitchen/day center hub in California.
