Driving Instructor Trainee
Driver’s Edge Driver Training is seeking motivated and dependable candidates interested in becoming Washington State licensed Driving Instructors. We are looking for individuals who are patient, safety-minded, professional, and comfortable working with teenagers in both classroom and behind-the-wheel environments.
The right candidate may qualify to attend our June 2026 instructor training course. This is an opportunity to begin a long-term career in driver education with continued growth opportunities after licensing.
Pay
- $18.25/hour during instructor training
- $25/hour after Washington State DOL instructor license approval
Training Information
- Instructor training course is approximately 100 hours
- Training includes classroom instruction techniques, behind-the-wheel instruction methods, Washington traffic law, student assessment, and safe vehicle operation
- Candidates will learn how to teach both in-person and online classroom sessions
- Successful completion of training and state licensing requirements is required for continued employment as an instructor
Responsibilities After Licensing
- Teach classroom and behind-the-wheel driving lessons
- Follow a structured curriculum and lesson plan
- Teach students both in person and online simultaneously
- Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback
- Proctor and grade quizzes and tests
- Prepare students for written and driving tests
- Maintain student records and required paperwork
- Ensure student safety and safe operation of training vehicles
- Identify and report vehicle issues when necessary
- Communicate clearly and professionally with students and parents
Required Qualifications
- Must pass criminal background check
- Must be at least 21 years old and have been licensed for 5 years or more per Chapter 46.82 RCW
- Fewer than two tickets in a rolling two-year period
- No drug or alcohol-related traffic violations within the preceding three years
- No license suspension, cancellation, revocation, or denial within the preceding two years, or more than two occurrences within the preceding five years
- Must provide five-year driving abstract
- High school diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with teens or young adults
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Comfortable using laptops, PowerPoint, Teams, and Excel
- Strong communication and customer service skills
