Job Summary

A critical career opportunity is available at the Pentagon for a Defense Red Switch Network (DRSN) Technician supporting the AFNCR IT Services Program within the National Military Command Center (NMCC).

This program provides essential information systems support for Headquarters Air Force (HAF), Air Force District of Washington (AFDW), the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), and other key Air Force activities.

This role operates within a fast-paced, challenging, and rewarding environment where support for senior leaders and national defense missions can never fail. The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert responsible for the engineering, operation, maintenance, and modernization of the Defense Red Switch Network (DRSN) and its associated telecommunications systems throughout the National Capital Region (NCR).

Please note: This is a full-time overnight position working 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM and may require rotating schedules or standby support to maintain continuous 24/7 operations.

What you will do:  
  • Lead the maintenance of the Defense Red Switch Network (DRSN) and its subsystems to ensure continuous 24/7 operations.
  • Support DRSN operations within the Pentagon, National Military Command Center (NMCC), and other secure locations throughout the National Capital Region (NCR).
  • Perform all COMSEC responsibilities for the DRSN, including the operation, maintenance, and configuration of associated cryptographic devices.
  • Support DRSN switch operation and administration.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.
  • Conduct fault isolation, troubleshooting, and service restoration of mission-critical communications systems.
  • Conduct network planning and engineering activities, including circuit installations, modifications, and deactivations.
  • Provide technical and operational support to DRSN end users.
  • Support network expansion initiatives and modernization of the telecommunications backbone.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues affecting DRSN data communication circuits.
  • Provide outage and restoration information, including estimated restoration timelines.
  • Coordinate with other work centers to ensure DRSN circuit availability.
  • Perform status updates and continuous circuit monitoring.
  • Support continuous operations through rotating schedules or standby coverage as required.
  • Perform other duties assigned by DRSN management to support evolving mission and operational requirements.

What you will bring: 
  • Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience. Additional years of related experience, training, and/or certifications may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • Active Security+ CE certification.
  • Active DoD TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Hands-on experience installing, testing, and troubleshooting IT communications equipment.
  • Experience supporting telecommunications, network operations, or communications infrastructure environments.
  • Knowledge of network engineering, circuit management, and telecommunications system maintenance.
  • Understanding of COMSEC responsibilities and cryptographic device support.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-stakes work environment.
  • Ability to work a dedicated overnight shift and support rotating schedules or standby coverage as required.
  • Ability to support mission-critical systems requiring continuous 24/7 availability.

How you will wow us
  • Extensive, direct experience supporting the Defense Red Switch Network (DRSN) in a command center environment.
  • Strong background in one or more of the following areas:
    • Cryptographic Systems
    • Technical Control (Tech Control)
    • C4I Systems
    • Nuclear Command and Control (NC2)
  • Experience developing, testing, and implementing communications operations contingency, exercise, and restoration plans.
  • Experience with circuit restoration, fault isolation, quality control testing, trend analysis, performance monitoring, and status reporting.
  • Experience using telecommunications testing equipment, including:
    • Tone Generators
    • VoIP Testers
    • Oscilloscopes
    • BERT (Bit Error Rate Testers)
    • Multimeters
  • Experience performing Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS).
  • Advanced troubleshooting and component remove-and-replace experience on communications systems.

 At JCS Solutions, compensation is based on a number of factors such as location, qualifications, and applicable contract terms. The general salary range for this position is as follows: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00
