Qualifications:

  • Current PA licensure as a Social Worker (LSW), Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Professional Counselor (LPC), required
  • A Master's degree or higher from an accredited College with a major in medicine, chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing public administration or other related field, required
  • Minimum of 1 year of counseling experience in a drug and alcohol setting. If the candidate's experience did not take place in a drug and alcohol setting, the training plan shall specifically address a plan to achieve counseling competency in chemical dependency issues.
  • Current PA Child Abuse History, PA Criminal and FBI Fingerprint Clearance (before start date), required

Summary of Position:

This is a project staff position is responsible for facilitating and providing direct therapeutic interventions consisting of group and individual therapy, treatment planning, designing, implementing, and tracking effective interventions and strategies to promote therapeutic recovery and educational success.

The drug and alcohol counselor is the lead team member responsible for coordinating therapeutic interventions that include group, individual and bi-monthly multifamily group. The counselor will be responsible for completing required documentation such as treatment and discharge plans/after-care plans, psycho-social history, daily progress notes, ASAM placement summaries, case management, case consults and fiscal documental. The counselor is also responsible for providing information for progress monitoring and assisting in the development of individualized goals as part of a student's individualized education program (IEP). The counselor maintains close communication with the child's parent(s)/guardian(s) and other collateral contacts to monitor and promote progress. The counselor creates and maintains communication and collaboration with community-based mental health services.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Must qualify as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor per the department of drug and alcohols regulations and have demonstrated organizational and management skills.
  • Must be skilled in designing services that are flexible, culturally sensitive, and individually tailored to meet the diverse needs of the child and family.
  • Must have knowledge on substance use disorders and the recovery process.
  • Knowledgeable of evidence-based techniques to needs assessment and intervention.
  • Skilled in designing services that are flexible, culturally sensitive, and individually tailored to meet the diverse needs of the child and family.
  • Must have a knowledge of the drug and alcohol system, special education programs, regulations and operations.
  • Must be able to speak publicly and to carry out liaison relations with other child serving systems.
  • Knowledge of human services programs, regulations and operations, including those from various county agency: Children, Youth and Families; Juvenile Probation; and Mental Health/Substance Abuse.
  • Must have knowledge and skill in developing trusting relationships with children/adolescents, families, and peers.
  • Must be skilled in supporting staff to assist clients in taking an increasingly self-determining role in home, school and community contexts as they transition to community independence.

Salary (2026-27 rates):

Project Staff, Level 14 (260 days/12 months)

$68,981 - $86,227 annually - (Placement on band is based on direct full-time experience as a licensed clinician)

Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 260 calendar days (12 months)

8 hrs per day (7.5 hrs working + .5 hr break)
