At NorthBay Health, the Drug Screen Tech completes urine and hair collection drug screens and breath alcohol tests accurately and efficiently. Knowledgeable about DOT and non-DOT rules and regulations for drug screens and breath alcohol tests. Telephones employers with drug screen results in a professional and courteous manner and informs employers of any delays. Restocks and orders all drug screening supplies. Proficient in use of Systoc Occupational Health software to access, monitor, and update company specific protocols and to enter charges for substance abuse testing. Performs additional clerical tasks to include mailing and filing of chain of custody forms, answering telephones, and performing other clerical duties as assigned.
Primary Job Duties
Utilizes approved DOT and non-DOT methods to collect all specimens (urine and hair) in a timely manner with minimal inconvenience or discomfort to the patient.
Obtains appropriate ID and chain of custody form and accurately completes all required documentation.
Accurately and efficiently prepares specimens for reference labs.
Maintains confidentiality during drug screening collection process.
Enters data into computer for Medical Review Officer (MRO) after drug screen collection is completed via e-screen.
Coordinates positive drug screen results with MRO and notifies employer of final results.
Informs employers of delays if specimen is inconclusive.
Responsible for notifying employers of negative results when companies are not set up with voicemail and/or autofax.
Assists with update and maintenance of employer files in Systoc database.
Proficient in use of Systoc software to access company protocols, log encounter, and enter charges for substance abuse testing.
Mails all employer and MRO copies of chain of custody forms daily.
Accurately files employer copy of chain of custody forms in appropriate area.
Upon successful completion of DOT approved breath alcohol testing certification class, performs breath alcohol tests per protocol and communicates results to employers.
Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
Maintains an inventory and orders supplies, kits and lab requisitions as necessary.
Assists with other clerical/office duties as assigned.
Actively participates in department QI activities.
Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with department specific and system safety policies and procedures.
Acts as a PR person for the Occupational Health program.
Updates and maintains department specific competency file.
Participates in staff meetings, inservices and committees as required.

Compensation Structure
NorthBay Health uses a structured compensation framework. Staff-level positions use a step-based system (Steps 1-5) based on years of directly related experience, with Step 5 representing 20 or more years of experience in the role. Manager level and above positions are paid a fixed annual base salary and are eligible for a variable incentive compensation plan. Physician compensation is structured based on specialty and role requirements.

Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Completion of Medical Assistant program preferred.
Certification: Ability to complete certification for urine drug screen collection and hair specimen sampling within 1 month of hire. Ability to complete Breath Alcohol Technician certification within 3 months of hire. Current CPR certification preferred.
