Direct Support Professional Job Responsibilities:
Provides direct care services such as bathing, teeth brushing, transfers, etc. to the assigned individuals per their plan of care.
Fosters positive relationships between coworkers and individuals served.
Ensure safety by maintaining a clean and safe environment and knowing what to do in case of emergencies.
Encourages self-help and creative activities.
Reports changes in individuals’ condition or family situation to administrators and supervisors immediately.
Documents services provided with accuracy and detail on every shift.
Performs home management functions such as light housekeeping, laundry, bed making, and cleaning.
Plans meals, shopping for groceries, preparing and serving food/meals, and clean-up.
Can accompany and transport individuals served to run errands or meaningful activities in the community.
Learn medical protocols if any and pass medications as scheduled.
Able to be a role model and teach a skill to help individuals live independently and in some cases manage their homes.
Assists with organizational needs, as necessary. This means helping the individuals they support maintain a clean home and ensure that their bedrooms and homes are in order.
Other duties as assigned.
Direct Support Professional Qualifications / Skills:
Ability to work in a group home, and in-home settings.
Pass a background study.
Prior work experience is desired, but a willing-to-learn attitude wins.
Communication skills (verbally and written) with all levels of personnel, internal and external to the company.
Ability to handle physical aspects of a job, including bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, and walking for periods of time.
