Position Overview:

Job Title: DSP- Recreation

Critical Position Details & Requirements

Before reading further, please ensure you meet these non-negotiable requirements:

  • Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours/week. Tuesday-Friday 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM, and Saturday 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM.
  • Transportation: A valid NYS Driver's License and a reliable, insured personal vehicle are strictly required for daily community transportation.
  • Experience: Prior experience supporting individuals with I/DD or a strong background in human services/behavioral health is highly preferred for this independent, community-based role.

  • Location: Community-Based (Hourly Respite)
  • Reports To: Senior Coordinator of Community Services
  • Starting Wage: $19.49 - $20.62 / hour

What You Bring (Requirements)

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency.
  • Licensing: Valid NYS Drivers License and an insured personal vehicle with a clean driving record.
  • Experience: A background working with the I/DD population, or a proven track record in a role requiring high emotional intelligence, patience, and behavioral support.
  • Skills: Excellent communication, a calm demeanor in tricky moments, and the tech-savviness to handle mobile and digital documentation.
  • Physical: Ability to move comfortably throughout your shift and safely lift up to 35 lbs.

Your Core Responsibilities

Community Integration & Choice

  • Plan & Partner: Design and execute meaningful, fun outings that reflect personal choice (bowling, coffee shops, art classes, sporting events).
  • Build Connections: Be the cheerleader, coach, and guide who helps individuals build social skills, independence, and lasting friendships out in the community.

Direct Support & Safety

  • Person-First Care: Support individuals based on their personalized Life Plans and goals.
  • Reliable Presence: Follow assigned supervision levels strictly. Maintain a steady, calm, and respectful environment where everyone feels safe and valued.

Transportation & Daily Logistics

  • Safe Travel: Safely transport individuals to and from community activities using your personal vehicle.
  • Vehicle Compliance: Maintain required mileage logs and report any issues immediately.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Stay Tracking: Keep our paperwork world running smoothly. Accurately document service units and daily/monthly progress on goals.
  • Deadlines: Meet all administrative deadlines so we remain fully compliant.
