Purpose

The Data Strategies and Research Lab Data Fellow supports the strategic and tactical aspects of the DSR Lab team. The Data Fellow will assist with all stages of survey research including management and analysis of data, ensuring data integrity and security, plus preparation of reports. As part of the DSR team, the Data Fellow will participate in project teams as a contributor. DSR Data Fellow provides sustained contributions to ongoing initiatives as well as timely assistance with seasonal and urgent projects. The incumbent will typically spend 10-15 hours per week on assigned work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the DSR Lab Team with day-to-day operational aspects of data-related initiatives, pursuing excellence in all aspects of the projects and customer-service delivery.

  • Write, review and test survey questions.

  • Perform data entry, data cleaning, and management (including creation of data dictionaries) to support new and existing survey research projects as needed. Summarize findings, create reports (including charts and graphs), and occasionally assist with statistical analysis.

  • Write and edit guides, checklists, and other data science assets according to university and program-specific specifications and best practices in data science.

  • Attend and contribute to team meetings as necessary or required.

  • Document progress on projects in status reports, task and issue logs, and other formal and informal communication methods.

  • Exhibit professionalism at all times with appropriate dress, courteous communication with coworkers, customers, and other stakeholders, maintenance of tidy workspace, and keeping a regular work schedule.

  • In collaboration with DSR Lab staff, engage in continuous improvement processes toward the achievement of program objectives and staff leadership principles.

Required Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student at The University of Texas at Austin.

  • One or more years of experience working in a professional office environment or relevant course

  • Basic computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Experience programing in R, utilizing R Studio, and creating reports in R Markdown.

  • Detail-oriented.

  • Data management and analysis skills, including the ability to perform basic frequency data analysis.

  • Punctual, reliable, responsible, and able to work independently.

  • Professional conduct and appearance.

  • Eligible for hybrid work (mix of remote and in-person)

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Academic interest in Education, Statistics, Data Science and/or Visualization, or related field; Interest in

  • and knowledge of local, state, and national dual enrollment and college-readiness initiatives.

  • Experience or interest in survey design plus all other aspects of survey research.

  • Familiarity presenting survey research results in graphical and tabular form.

  • Moderate experience with Qualtrics, Stata, Tableau, Python, or SQL

Salary

$15.00 hourly
