Position: Librarian/Art EA @ Barry STEAM Academy

Supervisor: Director of Fine Art/Principal

General Job Description: To manage the operation of the library and provide guidance and instructional experiences based on the established library curriculum. Additionally, this role provides comprehensive art instruction focused on multimedia, visual arts, and photography, assisting in preparing students academically, socially, and physically for the 21st century.

Essential Library & Media Duties

• Develop and maintain library collections to support the curriculum and the developmental needs of patrons.
• Ensure unrestricted access to information and ideas.
• Administer the budget for materials, coordinate requisitions, and maintain an accurate record of expenditures.
• Maintain an inventory of all library materials and equipment.
• Assist students in becoming efficient users of information and developing competency in listening, viewing, reading, and interpretation skills.
• Work in conjunction with teachers and administrators to plan and implement a sequential program of library skills instruction.

Essential Art & STEAM Duties

• Deliver lessons for Kindergarten through 5th grade, occurring in rotation with Music, PE, and Robotics.
• Conceptualize and produce art aligned to PLTW modules by computer and artisanship.
• Introduce students to visual arts concepts such as shadows, lights, color, and different textures, extending to how these elements affect still and motion pictures.
• Teach students how to create and broadcast school announcements and podcasts.
• Guide students in designing the school yearbook, taking pictures of individual students, and photographing different celebrations throughout the school year.
• Instruct students in the study of New Mexico artists and help them explore multiple perspectives to see and interpret the world differently.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with supplementary work for students and supervise independent study in the school environment.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, principal, and /or Superintendent.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED. Additional education and/or training is desirable.
• Possess or qualify for a New Mexico Level III Educational Assistant License.
• Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, climbing stairs, squatting,

kneeling, driving and moving light furniture may be required.

Safety and Health: Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.

Equipment/Material Handled: Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.

Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After hours work may be required. May make site or home visits when needed and appropriate. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
