The School District of Cambridge is seeking an applicant to fill an early childhood aide position. Your role as a Early Childhood Aide is critical in ensuring that students with special needs receive the necessary support to access the curriculum, participate in classroom activities, and reach their full potential. You'll collaborate closely with the special education team, teachers, therapists, and other professionals to create a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:

Candidates should possess the ability to effectively communicate with adults and the ability to develop a positive rapport with children in various learning environments. Candidates must be comfortable working with students of varying developmental abilities. Candidates should possess the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in both the general and special education classrooms while maintaining confidentiality. Training in NVCI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention) procedures will be provided.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Working closely with individual students with disabilities to address their specific learning needs, providing personalized attention and instruction.

  • Assisting the special education teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and support with the providing of accommodations.

  • Helping to manage and encourage positive behavior in students, implementing behavior intervention plans, and de-escalating challenging situations.

  • Maintaining open communication with the special education teacher, general education teacher, and other school staff to ensure a collaborative and cohesive approach to support the students.

  • Observing and documenting students' progress, strengths, and areas of improvement, sharing this information with the teacher and other relevant parties.

  • Promoting social interactions and inclusion between students with special needs and their peers.

  • Maintaining accurate records of student progress, behavior incidents, and any other relevant information.

  • Ability to lift and maintain physical pace with children who may be at risk.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with adults.

  • Ability to develop a positive rapport with children in various learning environments.

  • Assist students with carrying out their IHP (Individual Health Plan) in coordination and direction from School Nursing staff. (Medication administration, G-tube feedings, diabetic care)

  • Assist students with personal care needs (e.g., toileting, hygiene); experience in this area preferred.
