For Water Street Mission (WSM) to fulfill its mission and purpose, it is critical for all staff to participate in the development and maintenance of a healthy Christian Community. By living out our faith with one another and creating a space where our guests are invited to experience that community with us, we participate in lives being restored. Even as some positions have minimal direct contact with guests, each staff member has an essential role in forming and maintaining Christian community. The love of Christ, evidenced in our Water Street community, is the real impetus for change with our guests.

Job Summary: Partner with the Director, teachers, students, and families across all Wonder Academy classrooms to promote social-emotional development, positive behavior, strengthen classroom culture, and equip staff with effective behavior support strategies in a manner that reflects dignity, restoration, and Christian faith values.

FLSA: Full-time, 10-month, Non-Exempt

All Water Street Mission staff must be:

Essential Functions:

Culture and Values

  • Share the Good News of Jesus Christ in words and actions with people we serve, communicating hope and dignity.
  • Walk alongside fellow WSM staff in Christian community as we journey toward maturity.
  • Encourage restoration in the lives of guests, recognizing we are each restored by God to become restorers.
  • Work in full coordination with other WSM staff, at all times, to identify, report and respond appropriately to any potential threats to the safety and wellbeing of guests.
  • Embody, encourage and communicate a team and ministry culture which fully reflects WSM's purpose, mission and values.

Role-Specific Responsibilities

  • Promote the social-emotional, behavioral, and developmental growth of students through observation, skill-building, and supportive interventions that foster self-regulation, positive relationships, and student success.
  • Support students with behavioral, emotional, or developmental challenges through individualized guidance, restorative practices, conflict resolution, and inclusive classroom strategies.
  • In partnership with the Director, collaborate with teachers to implement positive behavior supports, strengthen classroom culture, and create engaging, developmentally appropriate learning environments.
  • In partnership with the Director, coach and support staff in behavior management, social-emotional learning, and consistent implementation of school-wide behavior expectations.
  • In partnership with the Director, develop, implement, and maintain a proactive school-wide behavior support framework that promotes student success and a positive learning environment across all classrooms.
  • Develop, monitor, and adjust individualized in-house behavior support plans, maintaining appropriate documentation and communication regarding student progress.
  • In partnership with the Director, build collaborative relationships with families, providing guidance, resources, and support related to child behavior and social-emotional development.
  • Connect families with community resources, educational supports, and outside services when appropriate to meet student and family needs.
  •  Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and community partners to coordinate effective support for students and ensure continuity of care and communication.
  •  Contribute to a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, and shared responsibility for student outcomes.

Qualifications:

Education: Associate degree in related field or equivalent experience; bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience: Experience working with young children in educational, behavioral, social-emotional settings. Experience supporting children who have experienced poverty, trauma, or unstable home environments preferred. Experience coaching adults, supporting classrooms, or implementing behavior support strategies preferred.

Language and Communication Skills: Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to balance personal initiative with collaborative teamwork, to maintain professionalism and confidentiality, and strong organizational skills.
