POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Early Childhood Center Teacher
PAY SCHEDULE: Full-time; non-affiliated; 191 workdays

BROAD FUNCTION:
The Early Childhood Center, ECC, teacher is responsible for overseeing the planning,
implementation, and evaluation of the classroom program and child assessment. The ECC teacher
shall organize, guide, and implement activities on a group or individual basis to further the
cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of children. The ECC teacher is responsible
for the oversight of childcare staff members and the overall care and supervision of children. The
ECC teacher is responsible for ensuring a safe educational environment and fosters strong
partnerships with families.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement the adopted curriculum in ways that uphold its design and maximize student
learning
- Implement and continuously review student assessments throughout the academic year,
using data to monitor progress and informed instruction to support student achievement
- Demonstrates a commitment to culturally responsive, inclusive learning environments
and authentic partnerships with children, families, and communities that honor diverse
strengths, identities, and experiences
- Use developmentally appropriate strategies to guide behavior and support self-regulation
- Adapt instruction to support all learners, including multilingual learners and students
with diverse abilities
- Collaborate with other GSRP staff members and contribute to a professional learning
community focused on continuous improvement
- Maintain ongoing, two-way communication with student's families
- Attend scheduled family evening events, actively engage with families, and represent the
organization in a professional and supportive manner
- Ensure the classroom meets all regulatory and licensing requirements including required
child-to-staff ratios, group sizes, and completing all required program documentation and
reports
- Engages in ongoing professional learning, required training, and reflective practice to
strengthen instructional effectiveness
- Leads and supports associate teachers and support staff in delivering high-quality
instruction and care
- Serves as a model classroom for high-quality early childhood instruction, welcoming
observation and supporting educator learning
- Maintain confidential, accurate, and timely records on each child's development,
attendance, health, and program participation
- Prepare and conduct parent/guardian orientation
- Plan and conduct home visits as required
- Plan and conduct parent-teacher conferences
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance
- Perform other duties as assigned
RELATIONSHIPS & CONTACTS:
INTERNAL
- Frequent contact with Wayne RESA Leadership, Early Childhood Consultants, and other
RESA staff
EXTERNAL
- Frequent contact with parents, guardians, and student family members
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Executive Director of Early Childhood or designee

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 19 years of age or older
- High school diploma or GED required
- A Teacher will be considered credentialed for the position with any of the following:
o A valid Michigan teaching certificate and an Early Childhood Education (ZA) or
Early Childhood-General and Special Education (ZS) endorsement, Birth-K, or PK-3
endorsement required or
o Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university required.
Major or minor in early childhood education or child development with a
specialization in preschool teaching preferred.
Additionally, teachers shall meet minimally one (1) of the following pathways to be qualified as
outlined in the Licensing Rules for Childcare Centers R 400.8210:
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience
- Three (3) hours of MiRegistry approved training in each of the following areas:
o Program Management
o Observation, documentation, and assessment
o Teaching and learning
- Six (6) hours of MiRegistry approved training in any of the following areas:
o Interactions and guidance
o Challenging behaviors
o Trauma informed practices
- Works in a center that participates in great start to quality; or
- Minimum of six (6) months of experience
- Six (6) semester hours, nine (9) CEUs, or a combination to equal ninety (90) clock hours of
coursework in childcare administration, early childhood education, child development, or
a child-related field. Up to thirty (30) hours of MiRegistry-approved training may be used
to meet these requirements.
- Works in center that participates in great start to quality; or
- A valid child development associate credential, Montessori credential, infant family
associate credential, or associate degree or higher in any field of study
- Three (3) hours of MiRegistry approved training in any of the following areas:
o Program Management
o Observation, documentation, and assessment
o Teaching and learning
- Six (6) hours of MiRegistry approved training in each of the following areas:
o Interactions and guidance
o Challenging behaviors
o Trauma informed practices
- Works in a center that participates in great start to quality
Required Special Skills and Training
- Certification in First Aid and Pediatric/Child/Adult CPR within 90 days of employment
- Knowledge of and ability to provide a high-quality learning program environment as
defined by MiLEAP/GSQ state approved curriculum (i.e. Great First Eight Curriculum),
Program Quality Assessment, and Great Start to Quality
- Demonstrated skill working with diverse populations
- Demonstrated listening, verbal, and written communication skills
- Demonstrated organization and presentation skills
- Demonstrated collaboration, team building, and problem-solving skills
