POSITION SUMMARY:

Develop and implement early childhood and parent-child learning and connection activities in cooperation with other team members for Early Childhood Family Education classes.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Instruct assigned classes in the locations and times designated, including evenings and weekends as available.
• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate early childhood and parent-child learning and connection activities in the classroom.
• Plan and implement lesson plans and inform curriculum choices based on Minnesota Early Childhood Indicators of Progress in conjunction with the District determined curriculum
• Cooperatively collaborate and participate with other early childhood professionals for planning, implementation, and shared work tasks.
• Intentionally incorporate child interests, cultural backgrounds, language, community, and lived experiences into classroom experiences to create inclusive environments where children and families experience both belonging and curiosity.
• Conduct child observations and assessment.
• Use child observation and assessment information to continue planning and implementing developmentally appropriate learning activities based on children's current stage of development and interests, while sharing the collected information and data with the appropriate individuals.Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents, children, support staff, Coordinators, and Early Learning Supervisor.
• Provide daily guidance and direction to paraprofessionals by communicating duties verbally and in writing, and by posting duties in the classroom.
• Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment, and process requests with the Site Coordinator.
• Model responsive parent-child interaction.
• Maintain a stimulating, healthy, and clean classroom environment.
• Participate in program development and evaluation as requested.
• With early learning colleagues and parents, participate in evaluation of the classes and activities.
• Attend and participate in staff and site meetings as required.
• Participate on the Early Learning Advisory Council and District committees as appropriate.
• Assist in the identification and referral of children with special needs.
• Assist in identification and referral to families with outside agencies.
• Stay abreast of current research, practices, trends, and pedagogy in the early childhood field.
• Assist in planning and supervising field trips and special events when needed
• Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):

Required:

• Current Minnesota licensure in Early Education.
• Training or experience teaching in an early childhood program.
• Experience developing, modifying, and implementing curriculum and learning environments for children from Birth to 5 Years and their parents.
• Group leadership skills for parent and/or child groups.
• Demonstrated collaboration and relationship building skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability and desire to teach under the department and District vision.
• Training or experience using observation based assessment tools.
• Prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
• Ability to perform routine computer functions, including the use of email and Microsoft Office.
• Communicates with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.
• Demonstrates an appreciation and growth mindset of diversity in all interactions and job functions.
