A current vacancy exists for an Early Childhood Health Coordinator within the CCIU's Division of Student Services- one supporting the Head Start programs, and another supporting Preschool Special Education. These positions will be primarily located at the Gordon Early Literacy Center in Coatesville, PA, however travel across Chester County will occur to support all programs.

Summary:

The Early Childhood Health Coordinator is primarily responsible to oversee, develop, implement, coordinate, track and evaluate health services, including medical, dental, screening and nutrition services for Head Start and Early Childhood programs, within an interdisciplinary team approach. Health Services Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of staff development and training relating to health services for all staff and the effective use of the management system for the health services.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Planning
  • Responsible for the overall planning, administration, and implementation of Head Start/EHS/CCP/ PSE health services in coordination with Head Start and PSE Health team.
  • Use of PIR outcomes, program data and Community Needs Assessment to develop program and department goals, in coordination with Supervisor.
  • Upholds and, as necessary, revises the Health Services Plan as outlined in HSPPS.
  • Coordinates and schedules health tasks and responsibilities in collaboration with key staff.
  • Develops and monitors procedures for responding to individual student medical conditions and medical/dental emergencies.
  • Plans and implements training and support to Head Start, PSE and Community Childcare Partners Centers staff around health and safety requirements.
  • Reviews the child's nutrition assessment prior to program entry and annually growth assessment within 90 days of the child's entry date; recommends and refers for appropriate course of action.
  • Annually reviews nutrition/health information for students and addresses individual needs as identified.
  • Ensures mechanisms are in place that support communication among staff, parents, and community providers to assure individual health and nutrition needs are addressed; provides support, resources and, if applicable, implements action plans.
  • Develops, updates and distributes list of local health resources, as needed.
  1. Ongoing Monitoring & Record-Keeping
  • Collects, analyzes and reports health data and services.
  • Provides monthly statistical data reports to the management team and grantors, as required.
  • Collaborates with the Head Start and PSE Health team and other key staff to implement a comprehensive system of services for preventing health problems and intervening promptly when they do exist.
  • Reviews, monitors, and collects child health statuses and care, ensuring they are up-to-date, meeting 30/45/90-day health and screening requirements and follows up with staff, providers and parents as needed.
  • Ensures all confidentiality requirements are met and those who need information can access it.
  • Responds to requests (phone, e-mail and written) from staff related to child nutrition and health needs/concerns, giving guidance and support as needed.
  • Compiles and monitors injury and incident reports, and reports findings as scheduled.
  • Tracks safety drills and practices to ensure program compliance.
  • Monitors and orders classroom medical/health related supplies for program use.
  • Document health activities, communication, and health records in electronic student records (MHS) and distribute copies to appropriate staff for hard-copy student records.
  1. Parent Involvement
  • Assists the family in assuming the primary responsibility for their own and child's well-being as it relates to nutrition, health, and physical activity.
  • Assists Family Engagement staff in linking the child/family into an ongoing health system.
  1. Health Services & Education
  • Conducts regularly scheduled site and home visits HS, EHS, EHS-CCP, and PSE assessing student health and assisting families to procure appropriate health services, as needed.
  • Schedules, completes, and tracks health screenings (vision, hearing, height/weight) for students within set timelines set by HSPPS for all HS/EHS/CCP/PSE programs with assistance.
  • Integrates nutrition and oral and physical health education into services and provides education and resources for parents, staff, partnership providers and children.
  • Annually reviews and monitors HS/EHS/ PSE student's nutritional assessments and ensures supports and dietary substitutes or supplements are available.
  • Coordinates with the Food Services Manager to manage restricted diets based on health, religious practices, and/or specific food allergies depending on program assignment
  • Works with teachers and parents to make accommodations for children with special dietary and health needs.
  • Assists in the development and distribution of written, web-based materials and educational sessions for children, parents, and staff within the areas of personal health, fitness, safety, nutrition, and preventive health education.
  • Provide health orientation to newly hired staff and provide ongoing professional development and training as needed. Follows-up as needed to ensure all staff understand procedures and expectations.
  • Ensure that any medication that must be given during school hours is stored and administered appropriately.
  • Develops, monitors and trains procedures for responding to medical and dental emergencies and addressing individual student medical conditions.
  • Implement recommended public health plan for children with communicable diseases.
  • Monitors, tracks and reports COVID-19 related illness and provides current health and safety plan guidance to parents and staff.
  • Consult with health providers regarding children's health concerns, after obtaining parental consent.
  • Provides or helps parents to obtain health related information, and/or makes health referrals.
  • Responds to emergency/critical health situations during school hours.
  1. Community Partnerships
  • Attends Health Services Advisory Committee meetings to ensure the health program is responsive to community and program needs.
  • Serves as a liaison to the health community.
  • Serves as an advocate for child health.
  • Develops partnerships with outside agencies to better meet health and nutrition needs of children and families in Head Start/EHS/CCP/ PSE (including partnership agreements)
  • Assists to coordinate and host health-related events and services that support program students and families and community-at-large.
  • Provides supervision, orientation, placement and assignment for nursing students from local programs.
  1. Service Coordination
  • Participates actively in regularly scheduled team and program (i.e., HUB, staff, in-service, HSAC, etc.) meetings to report on progress and ensure service coordination across all Head Start programs.
  • Works cooperatively with Family Engagement staff to ensure the provision of health and dental services to Head Start children and families.
  • Attends parent committee, policy council, state, HSAC, and other program meetings as requested or scheduled (monthly, quarterly).

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Health Education or similar background required
  • 3-5 years experience either as a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Medical Assistant required
  • Proficiency in word processing, electronic student records, email and internet navigation required
  • Current certifications in CPR/First Aid required, CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification strongly preferred

Professional or Other Required Clearances

  • Current police, child abuse, and FBI fingerprint clearances current within 1 year required

2026-2027 SALARY:

$68,981 to $86,227 annually

Project, Level 14, Exempt

7.5 hours per day, 260 days per year
