Under general supervision, provides professional speech, language and hearing services to students in assigned Tribal program(s).
MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:A Master’s Degree in speech/language pathology; Washington State Certification in Speech Pathology; and one (1) year of related experience in a diverse educational and clinical setting is required.
SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION:Knowledge: speech and language acquisition, neurological, cognitive, social and emotional development, anatomy and physiology of auditory and vocal mechanisms and disorders, specialized equipment and testing techniques used in evaluation and treatment of articulation, language, hearing and voice disorders, evaluation and remedial procedures for sensori-neural learning handicaps and dysphasia’s, principles and techniques of communication disorders, identification and treatment, principles and techniques of aural habilitation/rehabilitation, educational and psychological needs of persons with communications disorders, theories of learning, diagnostic and treatment techniques of otolaryngologists, orthodontists and prosthodontists, community resources in speech and hearing rehabilitation. Knowledge of and ability to learn, use, and incorporate Baby Sign and the Muckleshoot Language into the Birth to Three and Preschool settings. Knowledge of and ability to communicate with and serve diverse academic, socio-economic and cultural populations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, or lay on the floor with babies and toddlers. Frequently required to use hands, writing, typing and holding infants and toddlers and at times use videotape equipment during therapy sessions, and edit/set up for presentations. Occasionally lift, hold and/or move up to 60 pounds. Continuous use of Vision, Hearing and Speech.
Licenses or Certifications Required: A valid Washington State driver’s license is required at the time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe. Incumbents must pass a criminal background check, a drug screen and meet all health and immunizations requirements required federal, state or Tribal laws and regulations. A valid First Aid/CPR card, Food Handler’s permit and a Muckleshoot Language Certificate may be required at the time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.
