Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

The Child Care Education Program is operated by the Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS), in the School of Health and Human Sciences at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. HDFS is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service regarding human development and close relationships across the lifespan. Our objectives are to educate the next generation of HDFS professionals and scholars, to generate new knowledge, and to foster the well-being of individuals and families in their everyday lives.

The Child Care Education Program provides a setting where university students can gain experiential and hands-on learning, as well as have opportunities to apply content knowledge from their courses. Students are provided the opportunity to complete fulltime student teaching, participate in weekly practicum placements, complete one-time observations for class assignments, and find part-time employment through work/study programs.

Position Summary

Early Childhood Education Teachers in the Child Care Education Program are responsible for curriculum planning in classrooms for young children, maintaining licensing and accreditation standards, and creating a respectful high quality classroom environment. Additionally, they provide appropriate guidance for university students working in their classrooms.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Human Development/Early Childhood or a related field and experience working with young children.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates Preferred Qualifications

  • Birth-Kindergarten licensure and early childhood classroom teaching experience preferred.

  • Follow guidelines and requirements provided by NC Div. of Child Development and Early.
  • Education, as well as standards of the NAEYC Academy for Early Education.

Percentage Of Time 30 Key Responsibility

Provide individualized mentoring and positive guidance for university students

Essential Tasks

  • Model appropriate teaching strategies for all university students.
  • Meet at least weekly with student teachers.

Percentage Of Time 15 Key Responsibility

Maintain up-to-date documentation on individual child assessment of growth and development for children in assigned classroom

Essential Tasks

  • Complete developmental screenings in conjunction with families.
  • Collect anecdotal notes of each child's progress.

Provide daily curriculum plans using observations of children's development and

interests

  • Plan curriculum activities based on observations of children and aligned with early learning standards.
  • Connect child assessment information to curriculum activities.
