DIVISION: Academic Affairs

REPORTS TO: Sr. Dir of Academic Partnerships

SUPERVISES: Early College Student Ambassadors (5-10)

SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Early College Coordinator will be responsible for implementing early college initiatives including Dual Enrollment programs, the early college program, and summer enrichment opportunities. The coordinator will serve as a liaison between UMass Dartmouth and K-12 educational partners. The Early College Coordinator will provide leadership to the campus in the areas of planning, outreach, and student support for K-12 schools and community partners.

In carrying out these responsibilities, the incumbent follows the University's best practices to build and/or support student academic success and retention and assist in meeting strategic objectives for persistent and timely graduation of all the student population.

EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Dual Enrollment Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates marketing material, recruitment, and outreach activities in collaboration with appropriate College personnel and partnering school site administrators. Promotes and encourages dual-enrolled students to matriculate to the College upon high school graduation.
  • Develops and presents reports, proposals, speeches, presentations, etc., as needed or as assigned.
  • Coordinates efforts with various campus departments to guide, assist, monitor, and ensure seamless enrollment, registration, and academic support for dual-enrolled students in accordance with internal policies and in compliance with government rules and regulations. Ensures all paperwork collected is complete and accurate.
  • Support all aspects of on-campus visits in coordination with high school and community partners.
  • Collaborate with the directors, deans, and the provost in planning, scheduling, and establishing policies and guidelines appropriate for the Dual Enrollment program.

Program responsibilities

Early College Responsibilities

  • This position will support early college program operations serving as the primary liaison between partner high schools and the Office of Academic Partnerships.
  • Provide support for course scheduling, coordination of class times, and alignment of academic calendar key dates with high school partners.
  • Student recruitment, registration, and progress monitoring.
  • Responding to Early College queries with promptness and professionalism.
  • Student/family outreach, including information/orientation sessions.
  • Collaborate with non-profit organizations that support Early College initiatives.
  • Coordinate access to university student support resources.
  • Assist in the planning and facilitation of workshops for UMass faculty and partner high schools to support best practices and ensure curriculum and service coordination.
  • Planning and facilitation of student campus visits.
  • Attendance at weekly Early College leadership team meetings.
  • Continuous collection and reporting of data to the UMass campus leadership, high school/district leaders, and the UMass Presidents office related to student demographics and success.
  • Maintenance of confidentiality requirements and privacy laws related to students and families.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Student supervision

  • Recruit, hire, and supervise early college student ambassadors.
  • Lead weekly Early College Student Ambassador staff meetings.
  • Coordinate student ambassador tasks and monitor performance.

Summer Enrichment Opportunities Duties Include:

  • Working with UMassD campus stakeholders, including Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Enrollment Management to offer an enriched residential summer experience for students enrolled in the CCA.
  • Serving as a Recruitment and Enrollment Liaison for current and prospective CCA students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree.
  • EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years of experience working in the higher education or K-12 educational setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in higher education student services, particularly in registration, academic and college transitions support, advising, career development.
  • A multidimensional view of the complexities and issues that affect diverse students and their academic and personal success.
  • Grant administration and project management experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to build strong and trusting relationships with colleagues and partner with high school personnel.
  • Commitment to student success and strong customer-service orientation.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity, cultural competence, and experience working with individuals from diverse social, economic, ethnic, academic and cultural backgrounds, especially including those with different levels of academic preparedness, learning & physical abilities.
  • Ability to take initiative, identify solutions, act proactively, and follow through on assigned tasks.

OTHER: Additional Considerations:

  • Some evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Some travel to off-campus locations may be required

SALARY: $65,037.00-$78,500.00
