Reports to: Even Start Director

Salary Range: $35/hour

Employment Terms: Part-Time, 9 hours/week

Position Overview: To support the early language development and foundational literacy skills of students in the NAEYC-accredited classroom. This role focuses on designing and implementing individualized and group-based interventions that enhance communication, vocabulary, and pre-literacy abilities in young children, particularly those at risk of language delays.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive school counseling services that support students' academic achievement, college and career readiness, and personal/social development.
• Deliver individual, small-group, and classroom counseling while helping students develop academic plans, organizational skills, and strategies for success.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and community partners to identify student needs, remove barriers to learning, and promote positive student outcomes.
• Monitor student progress, attendance, and overall well-being, using data to inform interventions and support student achievement.
• Promote a safe, inclusive school environment by providing prevention education, responding to student concerns, making appropriate referrals, and fulfilling mandated reporting responsibilities in accordance with state law.

Minimum Requirements:

• Five (5) or more years of successful experience as an Early Childhood classroom teacher. Experience in a NAEYC-accredited program is highly desirable.

• Experience working with children with autism or emotional/behavioral challenges and their families.

• Knowledge of:

• Connecticut's Early Learning and Development Standards (CT ELDS)

• Documentation & Observation for Teaching System (DOTS)

• Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ)

• NAEYC standards and commitment to ethical practices in early childhood education.

• Experience utilizing student performance data for program planning

• Flexibility to work a varied schedule

Preferred Requirements:

• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Haitian Creole highly desirable.
• Experience teaching in a culturally diverse urban school setting.
• Knowledge of instructional programming for infants and toddlers.
• Knowledge of special education and early intervention practices for young children with developmental delays or disabilities.
