Early Literacy Specialist

Work Year/Hours: Equivalent to school year; may be flexed based on program needs.

Salary: Per RFT contract

Start Date: August 26, 2026

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certified teacher with successful experience as a primary classroom teacher and/or experience as a building teacher-leader or professional development facilitator.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Michigan Curriculum Frameworks Standards and Benchmarks for Early Literacy.
  • Comprehensive understanding of balanced literacy and the six building blocks of literacy.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff and parents.
  • Satisfactory completion of interview process.

Duties/Responsibilities: (Including but not limited to the following)

  • Serve as literacy mentors/leaders for all staff.
  • Provide intervention to identified students.
  • Develop and present model lessons for classroom teachers.
  • Conduct professional development activities at the district or building level.
  • Assist with the completion of individualized Reading Intervention Plans.
  • Collect assessment data and disseminate results to appropriate staff.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
