Job Details EC Special Education Self-Contained Teacher
Duties SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
• demonstrate knowledge of formal and informal assessment procedures • familiar with formative and summative assessment procedures • select appropriate assessment instruments • conducts assessments appropriately • interprets assessment information accurately • demonstrates knowledge of the screening, referral, evaluation process • conducts an ongoing assessment of instructional goals and objectives • demonstrates awareness, understanding, and knowledge of the variety of physical, emotional, and cognitive conditions which may contribute to a students learning problems • reports assessment data in a clear and concise manner • provide classroom observations
DESIGNS INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
• develops individualized goals and benchmarks based on assessment results • progress monitors IEP goals and benchmarks • fully participates in the Eligibility, IEP process
COMMUNICATION COLLABORATION
• demonstrates collaborative problem-solving • communicates in an effective, constructive, and positive manner with staff, students, and parents • interacts positively and effectively with school personnel, including administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, building staff, etc., as an effective team member • promotes positive public relations
PROVISION OF INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES
• demonstrates the ability to integrate direct services into a regular early childhood setting • demonstrates an understanding of state-approved early childhood curriculum • provides instructional support within a regular early childhood • selects, prepares, and/or adapts materials to meet individual student needs • demonstrates effective individual, group, and classroom behavior management techniques
CASE MANAGEMENT
• participates with the Early Childhood Team • monitors implementation of student IEPs • responsible for gathering, monitoring, and completion of all student data for eligibility and IEP meetings • manages and coordinates required meetings, conferences • manages and coordinates required paperwork • trains and supports paraprofessionals • participates in parent training sessions
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• follows policies and procedures of the district • a daily attendance and punctuality • supervision of students • meeting attendance • maintains confidentiality • demonstrates knowledge of special education rules and regulations in accordance with these mandates • demonstrates knowledge in the field, including current issues and trends • demonstrates professionalism • is flexible and adaptable to change • uses judgment appropriately • conducts self in appropriate and ethical manner • treats others with respect and dignity • demonstrates continual assessment of individual program effectiveness and responds professionally to feedback

Qualifications
ISBE PEL with Early Childhood Self-Contained Gen Ed endorsement required ISBE Early Childhood Special Education approval required ISBE PEL with ESL endorsement required or willing to obtain
Experience working with special education students preferred An interest and/or experience working with students with varying levels and types of disabilities Expertise in conducting educational assessments and the development of individualized educational programs The ability to work collaboratively with others to optimize student achievement A strong commitment to professional excellence
