An international couple is seeking a reliable and discreet French-speaking Housekeeper/Property Caretaker for their pied-à-terre on the Upper East Side. The apartment is located in a secure building with a doorman and elevator attendant.
The position guarantees a minimum of 5 hours of pay per week. When the principals are away, the schedule is flexible and the apartment will generally need to be checked once every two weeks. The individual will air out and refresh the apartment, perform light housekeeping, inspect for maintenance concerns, and confirm that essential household systems are working properly. This may include checking the Wi-Fi connection, appliances, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and any batteries that require replacement. They will ensure the home remains secure, fully operational, and ready for the principals’ arrival.
The couple visits New York approximately three to four times per year, typically for 7–10 days at a time. During these visits, the Housekeeper/Property Caretaker will work approximately 5 hours per day, preparing and maintaining the residence, providing daily housekeeping, running errands, and assisting with general domestic needs.
The ideal candidate is observant, proactive, organized, and able to communicate any concerns promptly.
Responsibilities:
Ensure the apartment remains in excellent condition
Air out, dust, refresh, and maintain the residence
Inspect for leaks, water stains, pests, or other potential issues
Meet maintenance professionals at the residence, provide access, and oversee scheduled service appointments
Confirm that appliances and essential household systems are functioning properly
Check the Wi-Fi connection and report any connectivity issues
Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and replace batteries when needed
Prepare the apartment before the principals’ arrival
Change linens and ensure bedrooms and bathrooms are ready
Provide light housekeeping and household organization while the principals are in residence
Run errands and assist with general domestic needs
Return the apartment to its usual condition following each departure
Qualifications:
Prior private-household, housekeeping, or property-care experience
Intelligent, observant, and capable of working independently
Highly organized, dependable, and detail-oriented
Proactive, with strong judgment and problem-solving abilities
Excellent communication skills
Experience working around valuable artwork and high-end furnishings
Strong understanding of privacy and discretion
Requirements:
Fluency in French
Legal authorization to work in the United States
Willingness to complete a background check
Flexibility to provide additional support when the principals are in New York
Comfortable following the access and security procedures of a private building
Salary and Benefits:
$40+ per hour
Minimum of 5 hours of pay guaranteed per week with a flexible schedule
Approximately 5 hours per day when the principals are in residence, three to four times per year
Late September or early October start date; flexible for the right candidate
