Echo Ultrasonographer

Overview:

To perform echocardiographic procedures as requested by the physician, accurately keep charges and to supply to the appropriate physician for reading.  To maintain accurate and appropriate files and assist with GXT's as needed.  To coordinate the activities and functions of the ECHO area.

Responsibilities:

1. Proficient in obtaining images for basic cardiac scan according to ICAL Standards.
2. Organizes and directs the flow of patients through the ECHO Lab to ensure quality of care.
3. Performs echocardiograms on all age groups in a timely manner and assist physician in reading.
4. Maintains records and files related to echocardiograms.
5. Performs EKGs and GXTs as needed.
6. Maintains clean and workable equipment and work area.
7. Demonstrates cost-conscious behaviors by utilizing equipment and supplies efficiently.
8. Responds to "STAT" calls as defined in departmental policies.
9. Performs basic cardiac life support as needed.
10. Knows appropriate personnel to alert in emergency situations.
11. Flexible for helping to cover all shifts as needed.
12. Displays a sense of responsibility and is observant of the patient in his/her care during the procedure.
13. Assist in maintaining departmental statistical data.
14. Aware of safety precautions as they relate to the age of the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient.
15. Attends inservice programs, required training/education, and unit/department/service meetings.
16. Assist with the upkeep of supplies and equipment.
17. Assist with transportation of patients as needed.
18. Performs all assignments in a timely manner, establishes priorities of care and related assigned duties; effectively organizes work day.  Authority.
19. Needs to be functioning independently within 6 months of training.

• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Is a high school graduate or equivalent with successful completion of a on-the-job training. 
2. Certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer.
3. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.
