    Position Summary

    The Echocardiogram Technologist (Cardiac Sonographer) is responsible for obtaining high quality recordings of ultrasound images of the heart and related structures to be interpreted by the Cardiologist. The echo tech will be tasked with completing resting echocardiogram and complete stress echocardiogram as required. This is a technical position requiring a highly skilled operator with knowledge of the various types of ultrasound procedures. Work situations may require clinical interpretive knowledge, independent judgment, initiative, and

    ingenuity in performing procedures. This position will interact with patients, family members, and physicians as well as schedulers, MA’s and cardiologist on staff.

    Job Description

    Using standardized protocols as a baseline, performs cardiovascular ultrasound diagnostic procedures:

    • Thoroughly explains procedure to be performed; facilitates patients' cooperation; anticipate, meet and exceed expectations and reduce anxiety of our patients with AIDET (Acknowledge – Introduce – Duration – Explanation – Thank You).

    • Obtains patient history before procedure; accurately documents all relevant information; obtains all other diagnostic information needed to enhance interpretation of the exam.

    • Confirm patient identity, referring physician, and reason for the exam.

    • Complete ultrasound exam accurately and timely, adapting protocol according to degree and type of pathology encountered, while adhering to standards of Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) for Echocardiography for both complete resting echocardiogram and stress (exercise treadmill) echocardiogram.

    • Observes patient during the exam, monitoring patient’s condition and safety.

    Performs quality control (weekly) and cleaning procedures (daily) on all equipment:

    • Performs daily maintenance such as sanitizing the transducers, cables, beds, or other items as

    needed after each patient.

    • Works with Sea Mar IT to help performs weekly and monthly maintenance such as filter

    cleaning, workstation back up and purging or other duties to ensure smooth patient flow.

    • Alerting the Sea Mar Cardiology clinic manager when supplies are low to reorder (ultrasound gel, wipes for transducers, etc.)

    Performs clerical activities associated with department operation and patient care:

    • Transfer studies from the echo machine to the EchoPACs reading station

    • Copy or upload echo studies to and from EchoPACs.

    • Provide a preliminary report for the staff cardiologist.

    • Call the cardiologist to discuss and view any STAT findings (tamponade, aortic dissection, etc.) prior to discharging the patient.

    Participates in Quality Assurance activities, continuing education, and assists in training of new Echo Lab personnel and ultrasound students:

    • Maintains BCLS training every two years as required by the Certification standards.

    • Attends Echo Lab meetings and in services.

    • Obtain CME credits to comply with lab accreditation and individual certification standards.

    • Assists with the training of new employees and students.

    • Maintains professional association memberships

    Hourly - Hourly Plan, 50.00 USD Hourly
