Job Title: Echocardiograph Technologist

Division: Texas Heart Institute at BCM

Work Arrangement: Onsite only

Location: Texas Medical Center, Houston, TX

Salary Range: $88,583 to $110,000

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Summary

The Echocardiograph Technologist II functions as a mid-level healthcare provider who, working under the delegated authority of the supervising physician, serves as a physician extender. The Echocardiograph Technologist II role and responsibilities extend beyond those of the Technologist I and are focused on providing advanced clinical sonography services. The duties are performed consistent with their education and training, and in accordance with departmental protocols, policies and procedures, and professional standards.

Job Duties

• Performs cardiac studies in accordance with clinical protocols.
• Writes preliminary reports including measurements.
• Recognizes and identifies complex anatomy and physiology.
• May participate in research studies by performing necessary imaging.
• Responsible for staying current on training and techniques as well as operational maintenance of echo lab equipment.
• Exercises responsibility to ensure that the ultrasound equipment is functioning accurately and contact the appropriate support when equipment problems occur.
• Documents any incidental findings that might impact patient care and provide that information to the interpreting physician.
• Provides preliminary reports of cardiac sonography examinations for use by the interpreting physician and supports the interpreting physician by contributing technical impressions and professional knowledge to facilitate the completion of the final diagnostic report.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate''s degree from an accredited training program through an accredited institution.
• Three years of relevant experience.
• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biological science with emphasis on anatomy and physiology.
• Three to five years of relevant experience.
