Emergency Department Tech II (EMT) - Job Description
I. Position Summary
Emergency Department (ED) Tech II (EMT) provides direct and indirect patient care and technical support primarily in the Emergency Department and as assigned on the Medical Surgical floor unit, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and Provider. This role emphasizes hands-on clinical support, technical procedures, emergency response, and maintaining readiness of equipment and patient care areas. The ED Tech II plays a key role in supporting our small, often rapidly changing patient census while ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality emergency care. The ED Tech II contributes to optimal patient flow, safety, and high-quality emergency care through EMT-level skills and competency-based hospital procedures. The ED Tech works with greater adaptability and situational awareness due to limited resources and the need for coordinated teamwork in emergent situations.
II. Core Functions
A. Clinical Assessment & Patient Care
B. Technical & Procedural Support
Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) and rhythm monitoring as trained.
Perform phlebotomy, obtain specimens, and conduct point-of-care testing (e.g., glucose, urinalysis, pregnancy tests) according to competency and policy.
Assist with emergency and trauma care procedures including:
Wound care, dressing changes
Splinting and orthopedic immobilization
Assisting with IV starts
Preparing and maintaining sterile and procedure setups
Provide Basic Life Support (CPR, AED use) and assist with airway support during resuscitations.
Participate actively in Code Blue, trauma activations, and other emergency responses.
