Editor / Technical Writer SME III

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented Editor / Technical Writer SME III to support our General Services Administration (GSA) Assisted Acquisition Services (AAS) client. In this role, you will serve as a lead subject matter expert responsible for producing, editing, and refining complex federal acquisition documentation, business processes and templates, standard operating procedures, and strategic communications. 

The ideal candidate possesses deep familiarity with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), demonstrates extensive experience and technical mastery across both Microsoft and Google productivity suites, and has experience integrating AI-driven writing, research, and editing tools to streamline reviews and improve document quality.

Location:  This is a Remote or Hybrid role. Personnel located within 50 miles of the Hive Group Headquarters will be required to be on site a minimum of one day per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute expert-level quality reviews of Government acquisition documents, ensuring 100% on-time delivery while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and regulatory compliance with the FAR, DFARS, GSAR, GSA Acquisition Handbook, and AAS business processes, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and templates.
• Reorganize and refine technical content to ensure the author's purpose is immediately clear and free of all ambiguity.
• Analyze complex technical requirements critically, identifying potential risks and inconsistencies in acquisition documents and proactively recommend solutions to resolve issues before final submission.
• Maintain and update acquisition life cycle templates to incorporate policy and procedural updates and changes and ensure accuracy and continuity across the template library. 
• Act as a senior advisor to the task lead and Technical Writer team to distill complex acquisition policies and requirements into clear, concise, and structured guidance for the full acquisition life cycle.
• Utilize Microsoft 365 (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspace (i.e., Docs, Sheets, Slides), AI assistants (e.g., Google Gemini and USAi), and available editing tools (e.g., PerfectIt) to streamline review processes, significantly reduce manual formatting time, and enhance content quality and accuracy.
• Provide mentorship and thought leadership across the Technical Writer team and other task areas, institutionalizing editorial best practices, style guide adherence, and efficient editing workflows.
• Navigate evolving stakeholder landscapes, diplomatically delivering critical feedback and recommendations to proactively streamline processes, drive efficiencies, and implement automation, whenever possible.
• Maintain and update client-specific style guides, templates, and SOPs, ensuring exceptional quality for the client and a consistent, professional brand identity across the enterprise.
• Collect and document quantitative and qualitative metrics to enable trend analysis and measurably improve templates, training, and communication across all workstreams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., preferably English, Communications, Journalism, Business, Education, or a closely related degree).
• Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience as an Editor, Technical Writer, Communications SME, or Acquisition SME in a Federal acquisition environment.
• Demonstrated familiarity with Federal acquisitions, including a clear operational understanding of the FAR, DFARS, Executive Orders, and Federal policy mandates.
• Expert-level fluency in both Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
• Comfort, familiarity, and hands-on experience using modern AI technologies and platforms to support writing, research, and editing workflows.

Compensation and Benefits

The estimated compensation range for this position is between $120,000 and $140,000 annually. Actual salary is determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s specialized skills, certifications, and years of experience.
