Maryland SPCA Job Description Job Title: Education Coordinator Department: Community Care & Advocacy Reports to: Community Care & Advocacy Assistant Director Salary Range: $18.50 to $19.50 Schedule: Flexible 3 days a week FLSA Status: Part-time, hourly Date revised: September 12th, 2026 Position Summary: The Education Coordinator provides humane education programs including the Kindness for Paws art show, reading hour and in-person talks to our community. The Education Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Community Care & Advocacy Assistant Director to help meet the goals for our humane education program. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Coordinate and facilitate the annual Kindness for PAWS art show. The KFP Art Show is an annual Humane Education and Fundraising event where students k-12 from participating schools create 2-D art based on photos of MD SPCA pets that have been adopted. This art is on display for a week and then culminates as an art sale on the last day when the art can be purchased.
- Coordinate and facilitate the MD SPCA’s Teacher Led Curriculum program.
- Working under the guidance of the Community Care & Advocacy Assistant Director, assist in the continual evaluation and improvement of the MD SPCA humane educationprograms through the enhancements of lesson plans, supplemental materials, presentations, and web resources.
- Maintain organized records of program participation, attendance, feedback, materials, and outcomes to support program evaluation.
- Build and maintain relationships with schools, community groups, volunteers, and internal departments to strengthen and expand humane education opportunities.
- Coordinate program logistics, including scheduling, confirming locations, preparing materials, communicating with participants, and ensuring programs are ready for successful delivery.
- In consultation with the Community Care & Advocacy Assistant Director, plan, prepare, and deliver engaging humane education lessons, activities, and presentations both at the MD SPCA and off-site for interested community organizations such as: schools, seniors, scout groups, and other community audiences.
- Transport and set up education materials, supplies, and program resources for on-site and off-site events as needed.
- Adapt education content and activities based on audience age, group size, setting, and learning goals.
- Working with the Community Care & Advocacy Assistant Director, identify opportunities to improve or expand humane education programming based on community needs, participant feedback, and program goals.
- Proactively contributes to the creation of a positive culture within the team.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: - High School diploma or GED required
- Demonstrated experience (minimum 1 year) managing and delivering education programs or similar programs
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to speak to groups of people, including children and the elderly
- Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical ability
- Highly organized, detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Comfort working with volunteers.
- Comfort working with cats and dogs.
- Must adhere to all guidelines as set forth in the MD SPCA’s Employee Handbook
- Clean driving record with a valid state-issued driver’s license
- Ability to drive large vehicles including vans as needed
- Must pass a background & fingerprint check
- Proficient in Microsoft Office - including Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel
- Ability to work a flexible schedule. 25% of the positions time will be working evenings and weekends
Physical Demands: - Ability to perform physical duties, including animal handling and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Extended periods of standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, and reaching.
- This position is regularly exposed to animals, animal waste and potentially hazardous conditions, including the risk of animal bites.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
