The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for an Education Coordinator for the Anvil Mountain Correctional Center (AMCC) located in Nome, Alaska.

What you will be doing:
The successful applicant will be part of a team setting in the programs department at Anvil Mountain Correctional Center. You will engage in providing innovative educational programs and our facility. This encompasses program development and design, coupled with making curriculum for offenders’ education in the areas of Adult Basic Education, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), Life Skills, Vocational Education, and Post-Secondary Education.

Your interaction with offenders can help them work towards a more positive release outcome by connecting resources when able throughout the State. You will help guide their way during incarceration towards programming and rehabilitative needs. You will take the lead on Educational Programming including GED and Reentry services that will aid offenders in moving toward a successful future. You will coordinate outside resources with incarcerated individuals to achieve corrections goals.

The working environment you can expect:
Your office, classroom and library are located in the secure side of the facility. Security staff are available but not located inside your area as you work with offenders. Both male and female offenders from minors to all ages of adults, sentenced and unsentenced will require your educational services.

  • the flexibility to adjust resources, network with community resources and adapt to schedule changes/delays that arise as your educational services can and will fluctuate as development in educational services moves forward.
