The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for
an Education Coordinator position located at the Ketchikan Correctional Center (KCC) in Ketchikan, Alaska.

What you will be doing:
The Education Coordinator is responsible for teaching and assisting Ketchikan Correctional Center's (KCC's) inmate population in areas including Adult Basic Education, GED, life skills, vocational training and post-secondary education.  The Education Coordinator coordinates volunteer programs to include religious programs and substance abuse volunteers.

The working environment you can expect:
Your office, classroom and library are located in the secure part of the facility.  Security staff are available, but not located inside the area where you will work with offenders.  KCC provides educational opportunities to both male and female offenders, as well as, sentenced and unsentenced individuals.  

Who we are looking for:
We are looking for a person with excellent writing and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated history of self-motivation and reliability on the job.  You should be able to work with a culturally diverse offender population and be able to recognize and respond to lifestyle and value differences.  You should have experience coordinating and scheduling providers to help enhance education and rehabilitation opportunities.  The ability to work effectively and calmly with individuals who might be offensive, upset or hostile is a trait that is well suited for corrections work.
