We are seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our Special Education Department. The successful candidate will work with students to address occupational therapy needs and support their educational journey.
Occupational Therapist Responsibilities
- Evaluate students referred for occupational therapy based on observation, record review, or multidisciplinary staffing.
- Plan and implement Occupational Therapy programs for individual students.
- Write IEP goals and implement programs through the IEP process.
- Collaborate with teachers, teaching parents, and parents on therapy plans for students.
- Maintain Occupational Therapy records and disseminate relevant information to parents and professionals.
- Train staff in therapy techniques and principles.
- Stay informed about community resources relevant to occupational therapy.
- Serve as a resource to medical and educational staff.
- Participate in Medicaid in Public Schools (MIPS) as directed.
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) Responsibilities
- Support students in occupational therapy under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist.
- Assist in screening/evaluation and implementation of intervention services.
- Work with students identified with disabilities affecting daily life activities and educational access.
- Implement individually designed interventions based on occupational performance deficits.
- Document therapeutic progress in daily notes and quarterly reports.
- Understand and follow Special Education policies and procedures within the Agency.
- Participate in Medicaid in Public Schools (MIPS) billing.
Training and Experience
- Two years of therapy experience.
- Pediatric therapy experience.
- Experience working with sensory-impaired individuals.
- Experience working with children with complex needs.
Licensing/Certification Requirements
- Ability to pass FBI and State background checks.
- Completion/Graduation from an Accredited Occupational Therapy Program.
- Occupational Therapist License.
- National Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners Certification.
- AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card.

- Agency or program rules, regulations, and operating procedures.
- Principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
- Federal and State statutes, policies, and procedures related to occupational therapy.
