Departmental Overview

The Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley (GGSC) studies the psychology, sociology, and neuroscience of well-being and teaches skills that foster a thriving, resilient, and compassionate society. Since 2001, it has served as a bridge between scientists and the public, turning research findings into practical resources for social and emotional well-being.

Position Summary

We are seeking a part-time (50%) Education Marketing Specialist to support our mission of building kinder, happier schools and classrooms where everyone belongs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mission-driven marketing, metrics, content creation, and cross-functional collaboration.

The primary responsibility of the Education Marketing Specialist is to develop and execute marketing strategies to promote Greater Good Education's (GGE) various offerings, especially to meet registration and engagement goals in GGE's professional learning programs, such as our communities of practice.

The Education Marketing Specialist will focus on strategizing, designing, and packaging multimedia marketing content for outreach to PreK-12 schools and districts, educational organizations, ministries of education, and beyond, and on analyzing the impact of GGE marketing campaigns. Their work will help connect schools with the GGE's evidence-based resources and create meaningful pathways for educators, schools, and districts to enroll in or adopt GGE programs. Under the supervision and guidance of the Education Director, this position will collaborate closely with the education team to grow and sustain enrollment numbers in Greater Good Education communities of practice, grow new GGE initiatives, increase overall engagement with GGE, draw on data from marketing campaigns to inform GGE's overall marketing plan, and make a lasting impact on the well-being of school communities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute promotional campaigns (email, social, paid) to drive registration for Greater Good Education (GGE) communities of practice and other education programs, in coordination with the Director of Education Partnerships and the Communications Specialist.
  • Monitor enrollment and engagement data across marketing campaigns to inform updates to the marketing plan and to provide summaries for reports to funders.
  • Build and manage a quarterly registration-focused marketing funnel for Greater Good Education communities of practice.
  • Create sales materials-one-pagers, program overviews, pitch decks-that the Director of Education Partnerships can use in district and partner conversations.
  • Create and manage branding and creative for education program offerings and collateral, aligning with GGSC brand guidelines and working with the GGSC's marketing team, designers, copywriters, and consultants as needed.
  • Promote new Greater Good Education (GGE) articles and practices, and repurpose existing content - videos, articles, and other materials - into new formats (e.g., clips, social posts, newsletter features, blog posts) to extend the program's reach and maximize its impact across channels.   • Support strategy for GGE newsletters, social media channels, and advertising campaigns, using metrics to inform testing and growth. (As time allows)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience in marketing or related field.
  • Strong background in managing multi-channel digital marketing campaigns, ideally within nonprofit, mission-driven, or cause-based organizations.
  • Experience designing flyers, packages, downloadables, digital ads, and other marketing collateral, using software such as Canva, Figma, applications in the Adobe Creative Cloud, and/or other tools.
  • Exceptional writing skills.
  • Experience with newsletter marketing, including building newsletter journeys and audience segmentation, using MailChimp or similar platforms.
  • Experience using online analytics tools to drive the design and execution of marketing campaigns.
  • Strong understanding of the marketing funnel, with demonstrated ability to drive conversions.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Deep interest in supporting the well-being of education professionals, students, and school communities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience creating and/or editing short videos and other media for marketing purposes.

  • Experience using social media platforms-such as LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, and others-to build community, grow audience, and drive engagement.

  • A strong understanding of the education ecosystem in the U.S. and abroad, including schools, districts, and national and international educational organizations.

  • Experience selling or supporting professional development programs at the district or school leadership level.

  • Familiarity with funding sources (state, regional, federal, or international) for professional development for education professionals.

  • Demonstrated alignment with the Greater Good Science Center's mission and programs.

Salary & Benefits

This is a part-time (20 hours/week) Career position eligible for UC benefits. For information on the comprehensive benefits package offered by the University, please visit the University of California's Compensation & Benefits website.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted annual range the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $82,800 - $85,000. These figures represent the full-time equivalent (100% FTE) annual salary range. Compensation will be prorated based on the appointment percentage.

  • This position is eligible for remote work (within the United States). Exact arrangements are determined in partnership with your supervisor to meet role responsibilities and department needs and are subject to change.

  • This position will be governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Communications, Marketing, and Sales Professionals, represented by the UAW.
