Job Description and Duties

Under general supervision from the Education Administrator I of the Language Policy and Leadership Office, and general direction from the Director of the Multilingual Support Division, and working cooperatively with program offices and supervisors throughout the California Department of Education, the incumbent works independently on the following education programs: Every Student Succeeds Act, Title III, English learner, and immigrant student programs. This is a bilingual position with English-Spanish translation and interpretation capacities required.

  • Provide leadership, technical assistance, and policy guidance to local educational agencies, county offices of education, and educational partners regarding state and federal requirements, policies, and program expectations for multilingual, English learner, and immigrant/newcomer students.
  • Lead and support initiatives that promote multilingualism, bi-literacy, and access to high-quality language instruction educational programs.
  • Coordinate and support implementation of state and federal programs serving multilingual, English learner, and immigrant/newcomer students, including Title III and other assigned initiatives.
  • Coordinate and participate in statewide, regional, and local technical assistance and systems improvement efforts designed to strengthen programs and services for multilingual, English learner, and immigrant/newcomer students.
  • Support initiatives that strengthen meaningful family, parent, and community engagement for multilingual, English learner, and immigrant/newcomer students.
  • Facilitate public-facing bilingual (Spanish-English) webinars, meetings, conferences presentations, and listening.
  • Participate in regular staff, division, and department meetings; keep supervisor apprised of the status of projects, emerging issues, and program activities.

Travel will be required based on program needs.

Personal Leave Program 2025

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary range(s) shown on this job posting does not reflect the salary reduction.

TELEWORK OPTION

HYBRID

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. Currently, the hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and working a minimum of two days per week in the office.

Department Information

  2. Describe your experience leading projects, programs, initiatives, grants, or contracts. Include examples of providing technical assistance, developing resources or guidance, managing timelines or deliverables, and working with multiple stakeholders to achieve program goals.

  3. Describe a situation where you worked with diverse educational partners, families, community organizations, or government agencies to address a complex issue or implement a new initiative. What was your role, what actions did you take, and what were the results?
