The Kaukauna Area School District is seeking a qualified Deaf & Hard of Hearing Interpreter for a full-time, permanent position starting with the 2026-2027 school year. This role provides interpreting and support services for an individual student who is deaf or hard of hearing in a variety of educational settings. The Interpreter's primary responsibility is to facilitate clear and effective communication for the deaf or hard-of-hearing student, their hearing peers, classroom teachers, and school staff.

Essential Functions:

  • Interpret/transliterate classroom lectures, discussions, multimedia, and other instructional materials.
  • Adapt communication methods to meet the individual needs of the student.
  • Demonstrate fluency in American Sign Language (ASL), Conceptually Accurate Signed English (CASE), and other communication modes such as Pidgin Signed English (PSE), Manually Coded English, and/or oral interpreting.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and teachers of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing to support student success.
  • Serve as a liaison to promote positive relationships between D/HH students, hearing peers, and staff.
  • Participate in educational team activities, including IEP meetings and informal staffings.
  • Provide input on communication strategies and interpreter usage as part of student progress monitoring.
  • Uphold professional interpreting standards in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.

Required Qualifications: Associates Degree Valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction License #884 - Educational Interpreter Proficiency in American Sign Language and Conceptually Accurate Signed English Ability to provide oral interpreting

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree (completed or in progress) Experience with additional visual communication systems (e.g., Cued Speech, Visual Phonics)
