• POSITION TITLE: 1:1 Paraeducator

DEPARTMENT: MOUTAIN VIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

REPORTS TO: SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

SUMMARY: Assist in small group and individual pupil instruction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

• Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
• Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
• Assist teacher with instructional activities.
• Escort students from room to room.
• Toileting students is required.
• Involves work with both special education and regular students.
• Assist teaching staff in the implementation of IEP.
• Supervise students while they are at recess and lunch.
• Assist students with classroom assignments.
• Copy materials for instructional purposes.
• Assist teacher in filing material and preparing all necessary paperwork.
• Alert teachers to problems that may be observed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY, AN INDIVIDUAL MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM EACH ESSENTIAL DUTY SATISFACTORILY. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or General Education Degree. Two years of college credit OR hold an associates (or higher) degree; OR successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment which assesses content knowledge in mathematics, reading and writing and an understanding of how to assist in the instruction of these topics (Parapro Assessment).

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, and talk or hear. The employee must be able to push items of fifty (50) pounds, such as pushing children on a bike or wheelchair or moving/rearranging furniture. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. When doing heavier lifting, the employee should do so with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.

Salary: Per contractual agreement Work Hours: 6.5 hours per day (8:40am to 3:40pm)
