Paraeducator - Behavior Support Job ID 1212 Partnership Learning Academy - Terryville, CT Full Time Academic Calendar: 185 days (option for additional work in Extended School Year) Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible

Position Overview

The Special Education Paraeducator will work collaboratively with certified special education teachers to support the academic, behavioral, and social development of students in grades K-5. The individual will provide one-on-one and small group instruction, implement specialized teaching strategies, and assist in the creation and adaptation of educational materials to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.

Major Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) under the guidance of certified special education teachers and BCBA.
  • Support students in developing independent learning skills and self-management strategies.
  • Assist in maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Monitor student behavior and provide feedback to the teacher regarding student progress and needs.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other school staff to support the overall development and progress of students.
  • Assist in the preparation and adaptation of educational materials and resources to meet the individual learning needs of students.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Must have taken and passed the ParaPro test or have 2 years full-time post-secondary education with a minimum of 60 credits.
  • Associates Degree or higher preferred.
  • Preference will be given to candidates pursuing or interested in becoming a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) but all individuals passionate about working with students are encouraged to apply.

Consistent attendance is an essential function of this position. Previous experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities. Ability to withstand the physical demands of frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and therapeutic holding as required.
