Job Description:

Paraeducators: Brooklyn Public Schools (Grades PreK-8) - Multiple Positions Available

Brooklyn Public Schools are seeking dedicated, caring, and collaborative Paraeducators to join our school community to work alongside teachers and support staff to create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed. Positions may serve students in grades PK-8 or other assignments based on district needs.

Primary Responsibilities

As a Paraeducator, job duties may include:

  • Partner with classroom teachers and specialized staff to support high-quality instruction and student success.
  • Provide individualized and small-group support to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, technology, and other academic skills.
  • Prepare classroom materials and assist with instructional activities that promote active engagement and learning.
  • Foster a positive, safe, and respectful classroom environment by supporting behavior expectations and encouraging students to remain engaged in learning.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times, including lunch, recess, bus arrival and dismissal, hallways, study hall, and other school activities.
  • Support students with disabilities and diverse learning needs in accessing instruction and achieving their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals while promoting meaningful inclusion.
  • Follow all district policies and safety procedures to ensure the well-being of every student.
  • Provide personal care support, including toileting, feeding, positioning, or other daily living needs, when required to ensure students health, safety, dignity, and participation in school, as needed based on assignment.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with school counselors, pupil services staff, administrators, and other team members to support student success.
  • Participate in professional learning opportunities and school initiatives as appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties that contribute to a positive and successful school environment.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess one of the following:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment; or
  • Associates degree or higher.

Experience working with children, particularly students with disabilities or diverse learning needs, is valued but not required. We welcome applicants with a passion for education, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of students.

START DATE: August 26, 2026

RATE OF PAY: $19.89 - $22.03 per hour*
