Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of student plans and instructional programs
  • Work closely with students, teachers, nurses, and other staff
  • Assist individual students and small groups as directed by the classroom teacher
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and caring learning environment
  • Collect and maintain student records and data
  • Support students in classrooms and community-based learning environments
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and records

Qualifications

  • Experience working with students with special needs or challenging behaviors preferred
  • Positive communication skills and the ability to build rapport with children
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of child development and student needs
  • Basic computer skills, including email and student data systems
  • High school diploma required; Associates or Bachelors degree preferred
  • Must meet all State of Connecticut requirements, including fingerprinting

Physical Requirements

This position may include lifting, assisting, and supporting students with a variety of physical, behavioral, and personal care needs. Candidates should be able to move throughout the school day, lift up to 25 pounds or more, and respond appropriately in emergency or behavioral situations.

Schedule

  • 10-month
  • 181 days per year
  • 6.5 hours per day
  • 8:15 a.m. 3:15 p.m.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: $23.22/hour - Step 1 of the Local 1303-266 Agreement
