Educational Paraprofessional Position Special Education Paraprofessional

Job Description:

Pay: $18 - $26/hr based on experience and education.

Position Summary

The Special Education Paraprofessional works under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher(s) and/or case manager to support students with disabilities in accessing the general education curriculum and meeting the goals outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This position provides instructional, behavioral, and personal care support in [classroom/inclusion setting/resource room/one-to-one] settings at The Speech Academy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide direct instructional support to individual students or small groups under the direction of the special education teacher.
• Assist in implementing accommodations, modifications, and strategies outlined in students IEPs and/or 504 plans.
• Support students with behavioral needs by implementing behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and positive behavior support strategies.
• Assist with personal care needs as required, including [mobility, feeding, toileting, or other supports specific to assigned student(s)].
• Collect and record data on student progress, behavior, and IEP goal performance.
• Support communication needs, including use of assistive technology or augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices as applicable.
• Assist with transitions between classes, activities, and therapy sessions.
• Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
• Collaborate with teachers, related service providers (OT, PT, speech-language pathologists, counselors), and families as directed.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with FERPA and district policy.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or administrator.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; [Associates degree or 48+ college credits / ParaPro certification] preferred or required per state guidelines.
• Prior experience working with children with disabilities preferred.
• Ability to obtain [CPR/First Aid certification, CPI/nonviolent crisis intervention training, or other district-required certifications] within [X days] of hire.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain accurate records.
• Patience, reliability, and a demonstrated commitment to supporting diverse learners.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift/assist students up to 20lbs as needed.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
• Ability to respond quickly to student needs, including physical intervention if trained and required.

Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in a classroom and school setting, with possible exposure to noise, movement, and behavioral situations typical of a school environment. [Add any building-specific or program-specific details.]
