Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Must meet applicable federal and State of Connecticut requirements for paraeducators. For positions subject to Title I requirements, candidates must also meet one of the following:
Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
Earned an Associates degree or higher; or
Achieved the required passing score on a Connecticut State Board of Education-approved paraeducator assessment.
Experience working with students with disabilities and/or behavioral support needs is preferred but not required.
Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students.
Strong communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
Ability to follow student Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), behavior support plans, instructional programs, and staff direction.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment when working with students and families.
Flexibility and willingness to support students with a variety of academic, behavioral, physical, and personal care needs.
Basic computer skills, including email and student data systems.
Must successfully complete all required pre-employment background checks and fingerprinting.
Must complete all required district and state training within established timelines.
Physical Requirements
This position may include lifting, assisting, and supporting students with a variety of physical, behavioral, and personal care needs. Candidates should be able to move throughout the school day, lift up to 25 pounds or more, and respond appropriately in emergency or behavioral situations.
