Educational Paraprofessional Vacancy 2026-27: SPED Paraeducator for HS Transition Program (ages 18-21)

Job Description:

New Canaan High School - Transition Program (Launch) ages 18-22

This individual will provide one to one support and vocational coaching for students with Multiple Disabilities. They will accompany students in the community, providing job coaching, modeling appropriate employment etiquette while meeting employer expectations, as well as always providing the framework for program students to learn how to safely navigate the community while always abiding by and enforcing local pedestrian laws. This position requires collaboration with the program lead teacher and coworkers. The successful candidate is also expected to work independently and respond to students immediate needs appropriately.

General Qualifications and Duties

• Works with students with multiple disabilities under the direction and supervision of certified personnel (primarily classroom teacher) and assists students in reaching their goals as indicated on their Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
• Follows the directives of the psychosocial and educational staff in working with the individual children as per each childs academic and social and emotional goals (such as self-regulation, impulse control, and executive functioning)
• Empowers students to take charge of their learning by providing all necessary scaffolding, modeling, materials, and resources and consistently maintain a high level of expectation for student success
• Demonstrates versatility, flexibility, and is patient yet firm
• Displays ethical conduct at all times
• Willingness to work as a team member
• Maintains appropriate and on-going communication with lead teacher
• Ability to follow written and verbal direction
• Maintains confidentiality and privacy
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
