Long Beach City College is seeking a skilled, innovative, and collaborative Educational Technologist to support and advance the College's mission of excellence in teaching, learning, and student success. This position plays a key role within the Office of Online Learning & Educational Technology and the Instructional Technology Development Center, contributing to the effective integration of technology across instructional programs.

The Educational Technologist serves as a bridge between pedagogy and technology, providing a combination of technical expertise, instructional design support, and user assistance to faculty and staff. The incumbent is responsible for supporting and enhancing learning management systems (LMS), designing and delivering professional development, and implementing technology-driven solutions that improve teaching effectiveness and student engagement.

This role involves moderately complex to advanced responsibilities, including troubleshooting and user support, developing instructional materials, promoting accessible and inclusive course design, and collaborating with campus partners to integrate emerging educational technologies into the curriculum. The Educational Technologist also contributes to the evaluation and continuous improvement of digital learning tools and practices.

Working with a high degree of independence within established guidelines, the ideal candidate brings strong technical proficiency, a solid grounding in instructional design and online pedagogy, and a passion for innovation in education. Success in this role requires the ability to balance hands-on system support with strategic thinking, while building effective partnerships across diverse college constituencies.

The successful candidate will need to:

  • Support the daily operations of the Instructional Technology Development Center (ITDC), providing assistance to faculty in the effective use of instructional technology tools across online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses.
  • Provide guidance in instructional design, online pedagogy, and best practices for effective teaching and learning in all modalities.
  • Deliver technical assistance and training to faculty and students on a wide range of instructional technology systems, applications, and tools.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of educational technology functionality, workflows, and user experience through feedback, testing, and documentation.
  • Provide day-to-day support for LBCC Learning Management System (Canvas), including course setup, troubleshooting, and user support for faculty, staff, and students across online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses.
  • Participate in the design, development, maintenance, and support of the Learning Management System (LMS) to ensure effective course delivery and a high-quality learning experience across all instructional modalities.
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver professional development workshops, trainings, and one-on-one consultations focused on instructional strategies, emerging technologies, and innovative teaching practices.
  • Create clear, user-friendly documentation, tutorials, and instructional resources (written, video, and multimedia) to support the use of instructional technologies.
  • Evaluate, implement, and improve instructional technology systems and workflows based on organizational needs, user feedback, and evolving best practices.
  • Stay current with trends, innovations, and emerging technologies in instructional design and educational technology, applying this knowledge to enhance instructional effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners to integrate technology and support institutional initiatives.
  • Manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Assess, review, pilot, and support the adoption and integration of emerging technologies, aligning tools and solutions with instructional needs, user experience, and institutional goals.

AT-A-GLANCE POSITION INFORMATION

  • Type of position: Full time (40 hours/week)
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

  • Salary: Range 39, $6657.62 - $8217.09 Monthly
  • Eligibility list: Will be valid for 12 months once approved or ratified by the Personnel Commission. We reserve the right to use the established eligibility list for vacancies (permanent and temporary) in this classification as well as related classifications.
  • Advanced Technologist salary placement: Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. Advanced salary placement may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Duties

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, participates in the daily operations of the Instructional Technology Development Center (ITDC) at Liberal Arts Campus (LAC) and Pacific Coast Campus (PCC); supports faculty and staff in the use of a variety of instructional technology tools to enhance teaching, learning and student success; and performs related duties as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Educational Technologist provides technical assistance in the areas of user support and systems. Incumbents are responsible for moderately difficult to complex duties in support of the daily activities of the Instructional Technology Development Center (ITDC), as well as, supporting the office of Online Learning and Educational Technology (OLET). Additionally, incumbents are expected to address student and faculty challenges through the implementation of appropriate instructional design, technological solutions, and effective pedagogical methods for teaching and learning. The incumbents foster the successful implementation, management, and evaluation of educational technology solutions across curricula; designing and delivering training programs, and collaborate fluidly with colleagues and divisions across the college. Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

Education, Training and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in educational technology, information technology, computer science or a related field and two (2) years of progressively responsible instructional technology experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Master's degree preferred.

Experience is evaluated on the basis of a verifiable 35 hour week, unless specified otherwise. Prorated part-time experience may be acceptable.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

A valid California drivers license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy.
