Position Description

The DNA Learning Center (DNALC) of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has immediate full-time educator positions available at DNA Learning Center NYC (DNALC NYC) in Downtown Brooklyn. The selected candidate will join a small, influential group recognized worldwide as a leader in creating and disseminating new methods in genetics education, including the fields of genomics, bioinformatics, and data science. Over 700,000 students have conducted experiments with DNALC staff-join our team as we aim to reach a million and more!

Position Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on genetics and molecular biology instructiton to precollege students visiting the DNALC for academic year field trips, summer camps, and extended research projects
• Deliver in-school instruction
• Assist with laboratory testing an prep
• Conduct teacher training and
• Present public tours
• Conducting teacher training and developing teaching modules.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor's degree with significant coursework in science (biology or molecular genetics preferred)

EXPERIENCE:

• Strong science background required with an interest and/or experience in teaching

OTHER:

• NYS teaching certification preferred, but not required.
• Recent PhD graduates who would like to pursue teaching careers are also encouraged to

apply-especially those with experience in personal genomics, DNA barcoding, metabarcoding, or bioinformatics

KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB:

• Strong content knowledge
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to work closely with others
• Must be motivated and a self-starter
• Availability to travel (domestic and international)
